Today, the term "industrialised construction" encompasses a range of modern practices and technologies aimed at transforming the construction industry. Personally I like this term and was keen to understand more and how this can help better promote what we do as a business. Industrialised Construction doesn't have a single creator but has evolved over time as the construction industry has adopted more advanced manufacturing techniques and digital technologies. The concept has been influenced by various innovations and practices from different sectors, including manufacturing and technology. Used to highlight the shift from traditional, craft-based construction methods to more modern, efficient, and scalable approaches. Here are a few reasons why this term is significant: - Emphasis on Efficiency: Industrialised construction focuses on improving productivity and reducing waste through standardisation, modularisation, and the use of advanced manufacturing techniques. - Integration of Technology: It underscores the integration of digital technologies such as BIM, Ai, and even 3D printing, which enhance design, planning, and construction processes. - Scalability and Reproducibility: The term reflects the ability to produce building components at scale in a controlled factory environment, ensuring consistent quality and faster construction times. - Sustainability: Industrialised construction aims to reduce the environmental impact of building activities by minimising waste, improving energy efficiency, and using sustainable materials. - Cultural Shift: It signifies a fundamental change in the construction industry's culture, moving towards more collaborative, integrated, and innovative practices. To me, this is the most significant differentiation from previous terminology. Speaking at the MMC Ireland Conference earlier this week, Minister of State Marian Harkin singled out Vision-Built, as industry pioneers at the cutting-edge of modern methods of construction 🌟 Vision-Built employs 90 people, many of them local to our Tubbercurry factory, and we specialise in the design, manufacture, delivery and installation of modular sustainable buildings, including fully built 3D volumetric modules and flat-packed 2D light gauge steel panelised solutions, with the products widely used across residential, educational, healthcare, and commercial sectors in both Ireland and the UK. Minister Harkin, who has responsibility for Apprenticeships, Construction and Climate Skills, also outlined her Department’s efforts to create diverse and flexible education pathways to support lifelong learning and career development in the construction sector.
