Accelerating the deployment of wastewater treatment capacity at a lower cost
About us
VorTech Water Solutions (VWS) solves energy intensive municipal and industrial wastewater treatment. Wastewater treatment has a massive energy footprint, consuming 1-2% of the world’s electricity. This is being continuously intensified by population growth and increasingly stringent treatment regulations. A significant contributor to the energy demand is the aeration process in biological treatment, accounting for up to 1% of the world’s electricity, which continues to employ outdated and inefficient aeration technologies. Energy efficiency has never had sufficient focus in the design of aeration systems. The Vortex Power Aerator, a novel wastewater aeration technology that massively reduces the energy of wastewater aeration has been developed to reduce the footprint of these processes. VorTech Water Solutions specialises in providing energy efficient water and wastewater solutions together with high-value services such as computational fluid dynamics and process modelling to maximise treatment performance at the lowest energy input. With years of expertise in fluid dynamics, wastewater process, control, and energy, we have developed the Vortex Power Aerator, cyclonic aeration approach which massively reduces the cost of aeration by up to 50%.

Exciting News 📢 📢 📢 Vortech Water Solutions have been selected for the Breakthrough Technology Company of the Year - a category of the prestigious Global Water Awards to be announced at the Global Water Summit in Paris in May. Being recognised for this award is an honour. It's a testament not only to the hard work, passion, and commitment of our overall team, but also the steadfast support of our customers and partners across the industry. With that, we are very grateful! If you are a Global Water Intelligence (GWI) subscriber, and are following the journey of Vortech in its ambition to solve global wastewater challenges, we would very much appreciate your vote. Special thanks to Global Water Intelligence (GWI) for having shortlisted Vortech for this prestigious award.
Our next candidate for Breakthrough Technology Company of the Year is Vortech Water Solutions, who took their revolutionary wastewater aeration technology beyond their domestic market into 2025. This Irish provider of Vortex Powered Aeration (VPA) technology secured a reference with Yorkshire Water in the UK and landed their largest project yet, replacing a 250,000 p.e. municipal WWTP in Australia currently using surface aeration, while also securing further deployments with existing blue-chip industrial customers. VorTech is transforming the market by harnessing the power of a vortex to deliver the mixing and fine bubbles critical for efficient aeration, without the maintenance challenges that have burdened operators for decades. With the pump installed above the water line, the technology delivers improved maintenance regimes and safety, up to 75% lower maintenance costs, 30% reduction in energy consumption, and reduced carbon emissions. The VPA technology is easily applicable in new builds or retrofits, simply replacing surface aeration or fine bubble diffusers, or retrofitting oxidation ditches and membrane bioreactors. Deep-seated expertise in fluid dynamics and skilled use of virtual piloting as well as operating through customer-funded projects has enabled VorTech to excel, despite very modest capital abilities. Voting is now open for you to pick your #GlobalWaterAwards winners! Visit our website at the link below to find out more. Results announced May 13th at the Global Water Summit in Paris. 🏆 #wastewater #waterindustry #GWS2025

Vortech technology in operation at a municipal wastewater treatment plant for almost 4 years 💧 🌍 See below video and post from John McConomy highlighting our first municipal installation in Ireland, now almost 4 years in operation. With more stringent regulation coming online (such as the Recast Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive), treatment plants are expected to achieve higher nitrogen removal and increased energy consumption in smaller agglomerations. Vortex Powered Aeration can able both nitrification and denitrification treatment processes in the same reactor, without the need for blowers or mixers!! 💡 💡 This project demonstrated how we can retrofit an existing biological reactor to enable aerobic and anoxic treatment processes in a single reactor resulting in a 38% increase in TN removal efficiency at a 41% reduction in energy consumption. This helps utilities and industry to meet new sustainability targets and compliance under more stringent regulation. This project testament to the progressive attitude of Ward and Burke and Uisce Éireann Irish Water in integrating innovative technology into their wastewater treatment operations. If you would like a copy of our reference site report, please contact us at info@vortechws.com.
“Yes, let’s look at this in a few months” “Sounds good, put it in the diary” Tell me you’re not a wastewater treatment plant owner, operator or engineer who postpones the opportunity for immediate change, a chance to make a real difference, today, until you have nothing else to do. Do you or your team say “come back when you have 100 references worldwide”, when a seasoned engineer or manufacturer brings you the proverbial goose that lays a golden egg? Perhaps yes. Perhaps no. There is also a different batch of people. Those who evaluate quickly, embrace change and drive our sector towards net zero. 🌍💡 Almost five years ago Vortech Water Solutions presented the latest advancement in wastewater aeration technology to Ward and Burke. It didn’t take them long to discuss with all project stakeholders and instinctively step forward. Decision made, Uisce Éireann Irish Water, Ireland's national regulated water utility, soon had the first municipal Vortex Powered Aeration (VPA™-S) unit in operation, seamlessly upgrading one of their existing municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTP). The VPA™ unit was lifted in to place and operating in just one day. 🚀🔧 The treatment plant served a population equivalent of ~3,300. Only 24 months later Yorkshire Water indexed to a 120,000 PE VPA plant and in 2024 the principal supplier of water, wastewater and drainage services throughout the state of Western Australia secured a ~250,000 PE plant. Q. What do VPA™ clients have in common? A. A real desire to make a difference, coupled with the competency and courage to lean towards the future and evaluate change through logical, unblinkered eyes. Risks are assessed, rewards are assessed and decisions are made, promptly. Not one of our operating clients has put the latest tech "on the back burner” to look at it in a few years when there will inevitably be 100’s of installations across the globe. 🔹 Benefits of VPA™-S in action? 📌 1-day installation for each VPA unit 📌 No need to drain tanks or disrupt existing processes for installation 📌 Optimized energy efficiency, reducing aeration energy demand 📌 Scalability—successfully deployed in plants from small to large-scale operations 📌 Process improvement, ensuring compliance with discharge standards while enhancing oxygen transfer 📌 Proven adaptability across municipal and industrial sites, including meat processing, food & beverage, and dairy wastewater treatment This particular installation marked the first Uisce Éireann facility to be upgraded with VPA™-S. The second was installed in December 2024. 🚀 Looking Ahead: With the continued success of these installations, we are hosting several Vortex Powered Aeration Knowledge Share Sessions in the coming months.
