Why are more startups than ever coming to Web Summit this year despite the challenging funding environment? Our data shows that Web Summit startups raised an average of $5.5 million annually over the past three years, well above the industry average of $3.3 million. In partnership with Crunchbase, we’re launching our first-ever funding report, exploring key industry and funding trends among the startups who have attended Web Summit in Lisbon within the 12 months of attending the event. Here are some of the highlights: 💸 $60.6 billion was raised in the past year by companies attending Web Summit 2023. 📈 $755 million went to startups in our startup programme, with cleantech and SAAS leading investor interest, while fintech and e-commerce funding have fallen sharply from post-COVID highs. 😇 Angel funding surged by 68 percent in 2022 before plunging 91 percent in 2023, and Series B funding also saw steep declines. However, Series A holds tight in second place to Series C as it rebounds from a 2022 dip. ⭐️ Among later-stage startups, debt funding soared from 17 percent of all funds raised in 2021 to an astounding 79 percent in 2023—an increase that could have major implications across the sector.
