As the world accelerates its transition to renewable energy, the global power mix is set to be transformed by 2028. In the next five years alone, we (collectively as an industry), are on track to add nearly 3,700 GW of new renewable capacity—more than what has been installed in the past century, driven by supportive policies in over 130 countries. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), this rapid growth will bring about key milestones: • 2024: Wind and solar PV will outpace hydropower in electricity generation. • 2025: Renewables will surpass coal as the world’s largest source of electricity. • 2026: Wind and solar PV will each exceed nuclear power in electricity generation. • 2028: Renewables will account for over 42% of global electricity, with wind and solar PV’s share doubling to 25%.
