This week we had the pleasure of hosting breakfast in our Dublin office marking the beginning of an exciting series of events in our new partnership with Make-A-Wish Ireland. Make-A-Wish Ireland is a remarkable charity that grants life-changing wishes to children diagnosed with critical medical conditions, giving them and their families hope, strength, and joy during challenging times. We are incredibly proud to support such a meaningful cause. The event was also an opportunity for our colleagues to connect and discuss future initiatives as we continue our commitment to support the community. A huge thank you to all who joined yesterday and to those who generously donated.

Irish dealmaking has been an unmistakable bright spot in Europe. Our Head of Deals in Ireland Liam Booth featured in Business Post over the weekend taking stock of the Irish M&A market in H1 2024. He considers Ireland as a magnet for international funds and the role that domestic private equity investors, have played in driving deal flow. The fundraise, which will accelerate the business’ expansion ambitions as part of an impressive growth story, was led by Liam Booth and James Gibson and demonstrates the depth of the Irish tech industry and its ability to attract domestic and international investment. We’ve worked with the Restaurants Association of Ireland to gauge the views of leaders from across the industry in Ireland. The research featured in The Irish Times today and showed that confidence among restaurateurs is being tested with the majority expecting their revenues and profits to fall. Respondents said that trading conditions were deteriorating and that the increased VAT rate was greatest threat facing the viability of their business. Peadar Hogan, our Director of Forensic and Investigation Services, attended the recent AMLintelligence.com European Anti-Financial Crime Summit and shares his valuable perspectives on tackling financial crime. He participated in two panel sessions - “Public-Private Partnerships in Fighting Financial Crime” moderated by Pat Lordan, Former Head of the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau including the Irish Financial Intelligence Unit, Ireland, and “Gaming – Getting Compliance Right”. His key takeaways: • Informal networks are so important for financial crime professionals to share methodologies and techniques. • GDPR challenges often hinder sharing case-sensitive information, making these networks crucial. • Maintaining investigation integrity and ensuring fairness is critical based on my experiences in law enforcement. • Interpath has observed a troubling trend where illicit funds that previously flowed through the mainstream financial services sector are now shifting to the gaming industry, where some businesses have demonstrated weaker controls and increased susceptibility to money laundering. • AML regulators are becoming concerned when firms grow and expand quickly without appropriate transaction monitoring programmes in place.
