A recent Forbes article highlights that OB/GYN is one of the medical specializations with the highest rates of malpractice lawsuits; as of 2022, 62.4% of OB/GYNs had been sued at some point in their career. These lawsuits often result in substantial settlements, which a 2024 article noted could exceed $200,000 per year. Reducing the risk of malpractice lawsuits for hospitals and physicians is where the #LapBox comes in. To solve this, the FDA called for companies to develop tissue containment systems to prevent the risk of cancer spread during morcellation (cutting tissue into smaller pieces for easy removal).
