Reinventing plastics with a scalable, circular, fully bio-based & fully biodegradable alternative material (PHA)
עלינו
Biotic envisions a world where plastic is not a concern. A world in which the consumer purchases a product and tosses it to any trash after use without the need to sort or recycle, because the product fully biodegrades in all environments. Costs stay the same, corporations can seamlessly fulfill consumer demands, align with current consumer habits, all while restoring the planet. Biotic is a fully bio-based polymer commodity manufacturer. Our vision is to replace all fossil-fuel-plastics with a scalable, circular, fully biological, environmentally friendly process, contributing towards reducing greenhouse gases emission, reducing energy costs, and rehabilitating marine life. Biotic is a proud member of the SME Climate Hub, a global initiative that empowers small to medium sized companies to take climate action and build more resilient businesses. Through the SME Climate Hub, we commit to lowering our impact on the environment through authentic action, halving our emissions by 2030. In making the commitment, we have joined the United Nations Race to Zero campaign.

It was important for Biotic to join the Business For A Plastics Treaty, convened by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and WWF, as part of our commitment to transforming the plastics industry and building a future free of plastic pollution. The Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Plastic Pollution will be holding their fifth meeting soon to finalize the text of an international, legally binding policy instrument to end plastic pollution (sadly we can't make it). Nevertheless, we support a comprehensive plan to: - Promote innovative materials - Instill accountability measures - Reduce virgin fossil plastic production - Support a just transition for livelihoods and communities across the plastics supply chain - Remediate existing plastic pollution Read our most recent blog post to learn more. #GlobalPlasticsTreaty #EndPlasticPollution #Biz4PlasticsTreaty

Today, on October 7, we stop everything to take a deep breath and look back on the difficult and painful year we went through together as a nation, as a community, and as a team. The past year has shown us how fragile life is, how everything can change in an instant, and how important it is to cherish what we might have taken for granted. Along with the pain and difficulty, we remember all those who were brutally murdered, those who were injured, and all the heroes who fought and helped, without hesitation, to save lives and protect us all. Our country has known many difficulties over the years. The tragedies and wars are part of our story as a country, but alongside all the difficulties we display strength, determination, and unity that is unparalleled. Today we feel the pain, the pain that has gnawed at us all year long, and especially when another horror story, or a heroic story, is revealed. We do not forget our hostages. Every day they are away is an unimaginable pain. They are always in our hearts and thoughts, and we pray every day for their quick return to their families. This last year has not been easy for our team. Some of us were drafted into army reserves and fought the war with boundless courage and dedication. For us, it was not just military service - it was the mission of life, to fight for our people, to protect our families in order to live here safely . Not only have our soldiers fought - we have all done what we can to support those on the front lines. We organized equipment for the soldiers, clothes and equipment for the evacuees, and made sure that everyone who needed help received it. Because in the end, we are here for each other - and always will be. Our team has always been, and still is, an amazing team. People with huge hearts, who are ready to give, to think of others, and to do everything possible to help. Our daily work reflects our values of unity, compassion and responsibility. It is heartwarming to know, especially in difficult times, that our team not only understands how fragile life is, but knows how important it is to support each other - in work, and also in life. This is our strength as a team, and this is our strength as a people. "And the forest of memory where we loved, burned in a great fire, But we remained alive and loving In memory of the burned forest and in memory of the burned that the forest remembered" Yehuda Amichai, "Closed Open"

In this insightful video, our COO and Co-Founder Eran Perlstein defines the critical terms 'bio-based' and 'biodegradable', clarifying their importance in the world of sustainable materials. At Biotic, we take pride in our technology that is not only bio-based, but also biodegradable. Unlike many bioplastics on the market that meet only one of these criteria, our PHBV bioplastics offer a truly sustainable alternative, ensuring minimal environmental impact from production to end-of-life. Our commitment to both bio-based and biodegradable solutions sets us apart in the quest for a cleaner, greener future. Imagine if all single-use plastic biodegraded completely at the end of life, returning back to nature with no harmful toxins. This is the future Biotic is building. #biobased #bioplastics #sustainablefuture #sustainablepackaging

My home country, Israel, is in the top plastic waste contributors in the world, what about yours? Listed here are the top producers of single-use plastic waste per capita. For context, an ordinary washing machine weighs about 70 kilograms. Imagine that, for every person in Singapore, a washing machine worth of plastic waste per year. The overwhelming majority of this waste is not recycled, and is deposited in a landfill to decompose over hundreds of years, or worse, end up in the ocean. The resulting #microplastics harm marine ecosystems, poison the water and land, and bioaccumulate into our own bodies. The plastic pollution crisis is a big one, but solutions exist. Biotic is championing its innovative #biodegradable plastic, advancing a circular economy and striving towards a future free of plastic waste. #plasticinnovation #bioplastics #biopolymers #phbv

We tend to talk a lot about plastic pollution in oceans, but on #WorldRiversDay, we’ll share a bit about riverbank plastic pollution, which in and of itself is a problem, and additionally serves as a pathway into oceans. The OECD - OCDE estimates that 5.8 million tons of plastic waste ends up in rivers across the world each year. Riverine plastic pollution creates similar problems as marine plastic pollution, including threats to aquatic life, ecosystems, human health, and industries, but also the added threat of infiltrating drinking water sources. We have to look upstream, both literally and figuratively, to solve the problem of plastic pollution. Let’s start with the source, and promote alternatives to conventional plastic like Biotic’s solutions. Read the journal article linked in the comments to learn more about country-specific riverine contributions to marine plastic pollution. #riverinepollution #plasticpollution #plasticsolutions #biopolymers #phbv Photo Credit: Alexander Schimmeck

Because Biotic's feedstock can include macroalgae, it was important for our Co-Founder and CEO to fly across the world to the great state of Alaska this past week to connect with the marine farming ecosystem at Seagriculture Conference. Travel is not easy when you have a family, and we're lucky to be led by a committed leader like Adi Goldman. #macroalgae #plasticsolutions #biopolymers

Attending Seagriculture Conference was inspiring and energizing. As a founder, it's important to learn about ongoing initiatives, and I was glad to share with others Biotic's capacity to change the plastics industry with marine aquaculture. I had some fantastic meetings to speak with farmers, government officials, and academics. Here's a snapshot of my presentation at the conference. #seagriculture #seaweed #sustainability #climateinnovation

Meet Professor Anatoliy Solonenko, Biotic’s Head of Algae Pre-treatment. The Ukrainian War took away his home and job, causing him to repatriate to Israel, where he considers Biotic as his new family. When asked if there is one thing people should know about Biotic, he responded, “Ecological and safe life only with the best, Biotic!” Anatoliy is an algae expert with over 30 years of experience in teaching and administration in higher education. He joined Biotic to contribute to the R&D efforts through directing lab work, producing reports, and writing articles, using empirical research to empower Biotic’s work. Passionate about algae through and through, his daughter recalls him teaching her about plants during her youth. Now, he is passing on that knowledge to the next generation, showing his 6-month-old granddaughter plants, flowers, and algae. He hopes that she, too, will become a professor of algae one day. Anatoliy describes the plastic problem as one that impacts all nations and is motivated by making a better world for his family. We’re lucky to have such a kind colleague, in addition to an esteemed algae expert, on our team! 🇺🇦🇮🇱🇺🇦🇮🇱🇺🇦🇮🇱
