The UK Announced Plans for a New Cyber Resilience Law. The planned (but yet not published) Cyber Security and Resilience Bill aims to boost cyber resilience for essential digital services and infrastructure. This aligns with regulations in the EU (NIS2 directive) and the recent US Executive Order and is practically the UK update of the original NIS (as that is still in effect in the UK). The planned bill aims to: 👉 Expand the remit of the regulation to protect more digital services and supply chains. 👉 More regulatory powers - potential cost recovery mechanisms to provide resources to regulators and provide powers to proactively investigate potential vulnerabilities. 👉 Mandate increased incident reporting. While attention to cyber resilience of critical infrastructure is definitely important, we hope this bill draws much from other regulations (e.g. NIS2) in order not to make the compliance landscape even more complex than it already is.
