Mentoring in a book: Build a successful business by identifying your consumers’ biggest problems
עלינו
*Fall In Love with the Problem, Not the Solution" is a cookbook for entrepreneurs, written by Uri Levine, a two-time unicorn builder. He co-founded Waze, the world’s largest community-based driving traffic and navigation app, which Google acquired for $1.1 billion in 2013, and was an investor and board member in Moovit, the Waze of public transportation, which Intel acquired for $1 billion in 2020. Levine offers mentorship in a book and aims to empower entrepreneurs to build a successful business by identifying their consumers’ biggest problems and disrupting the inefficient markets that currently serve them. Throughout the book, Levine unveils the truth behind the hardship of building a startup, side by side providing a cookbook for entrepreneurs, with the hope that the readers will use the insights and Startips to guide their way and increase their chances to succeed. The book also provides an inside look at the creation and sale of Waze and my second unicorn, Moovit, revealing the formula that drove those companies to compete with industry giants. Levine wrote this book with several audiences in mind: Entrepreneurs & Startup Founders; CEOs; Managements and Boards; Tech professionals; Strategy Leaders; Product Developers; Marketing Professionals; Startups Employees. Basically, every person who wants to realize their idea

I was truly excited to find out that when you search for my book, Fall In Love with the Problem, Not the Solution - A Handbook for Entrepreneurs, on Amazon, you'll often find it recommended alongside other fantastic reads that can fuel your journey. When I submitted my book proposal to publishers, these two books were mentioned as standing-out models for #entrepreneurship books. Zero to One by Peter Thiel and The Hard Thing About Hard Things by Ben Horowitz, who I also frequently quote in my talks, are true inspirations to me, and it is an immense honor to be part of the "must-have" books that help entrepreneurs navigate through the hardships of building a startup. If you are serious about your entrepreneurial journey, consider adding these to your reading list. You can thank me later :) #BusinessBooks #AmazonRecommendations #FallInLoveWithTheProblem #Startuptips Adi Barill

This one was a really hard read for me. “Fall in love with the problem, not the solution” by Uri Levine It’s a meaty book with some crazy stories and powerful insights. But some of its quite close to the bone. Much like the books endorsement “it is an entrepreneurs bible” However I would read a segment that stated “whatever you do, don’t do this” and panic about decisions made 😜 But the power of some points was incredible. My main takeaway is this; “Building a startup is a journey of failures” “You try something and it doesn’t work and then you try another thing that doesn’t work until you try something that finally does work” Fail fast. Easy to say. Hard to do. Took a total of three months on and off reading to complete this. Very worthwhile! I took this recommendation from David Hunt after he completed a podcast with Uri. Thanks David. Also complements a lot of the lessons from “Growth Levers”. Matt Lerner #learning #entreprenurship #business #selfdevelopment #reading #newyearsresolution

Uri Levine is the co-founder of 10 companies, including Waze (which he sold to Google for $1.1B) and Moovit (which he sold to Intel for $1B). He’s also been on 20 different boards, including a dozen he’s still on, and has advised over 50 startups on all things product, growth, hiring, and M&A. Most recently, he's the author of "Fall in Love with the Problem, Not the Solution: A Handbook for Entrepreneurs" which was described by Steve Wozniak as the “Bible for entrepreneurs.” In our conversation, we cover: 🔸 Why falling in love with the problem is so important for entrepreneurs 🔸 The 3 phases of a startup, and what to focus on during each phase 🔸 Tactics for telling a compelling story when fundraising 🔸 Why firing is more important than hiring 🔸 How Waze iterated to achieve product-market fit 🔸 Much more Listen now 👇 - YouTube: https://lnkd.in/gxWJb_Rg - Spotify: https://lnkd.in/gDg4EmqF - Apple: https://lnkd.in/ge8uXpRJ Some key takeaways: 1. You need to “fall in love with the problem” that you’re solving. This is the biggest driver of startup success. It will help you deliver value to users, tell a more inspiring story about your company, and recruit a team. “Falling in love” means feeling enough passion about the problem that it can drive you to persist through hard times. 2. The ultimate measure of product-market fit is customer retention. If customers keep coming back, it indicates that your product or service is meeting their needs and providing value. Achieving product-market fit requires patience and iteration. With Waze, the team went through countless iterations, incorporating user feedback to improve the app. Uri stresses that you must “keep trying different things until you find the one thing that works.” 3. The first and last slides in a pitch deck are the most underused. They show onscreen the longest—while you get set up and while you take questions afterward—so they should contain your strongest point. Don’t waste this valuable real estate on showing your company name or “Thank you.” 4. Use the “30-day test” to maintain a high-performance team. Create a reminder to ask yourself this question 30 days after someone joins the team: “Knowing what I know today, would I hire this person?” If the answer is yes, tell the person you’re excited about them and give them more equity—you’ll gain a lot of loyalty. If the answer is no, you need to fire them immediately, to avoid the inevitable damage they will cause to you, your team, and themselves. 5. Watch users, especially those who use your product in unexpected ways. Different people use products differently, so observing a diverse range of users is key to building the right solution. Uri also advises focusing on those who didn’t convert to uncover barriers and points of friction.

How do you say “fall in love with the problem” in #Japanese? We are now available in #Japan, in Japanese, making it the fourth language to which it has been translated, after English, Portuguese, and Spanish. The story of #Waze in Japan is interesting. Turns out, houses numbers in Japan are organized according to the chronological order of the building, and not in the geographical order used in the vast majority of the rest of the world. Waze crowdsources the information, including house numbers. It takes a long time to gather all house numbers, but in countries where the house numbering plan is geo-based, having very few house numbers and ‘knowing’ the mechanism allows Waze to get you to your proximate destination. In Japan, you can’t. You need to have all the house numbers in order to become good enough. Waze failed in penetrating this market, but hopefully its story and Uri Levine's “manual for entrepreneurs” will.
