This is ElliQ, a companion robot for older adults, designed to create a sense of connection for people experiencing a sense of isolation. Designing a companion robot to assuage loneliness is no small feat in imagination and engineering. It needed to be reliable, intuitive, and natural-feeling —combining complex AI with precise mechanics and electronic hardware. To do it, we brought together a team of experts across multiple disciplines. We engineered everything from the AI-driven interaction system to the mechanical design of the articulated robot that allows for smooth, natural movements. We also integrated sensors, communication protocols, and real-time response features to ensure ElliQ reacts quickly and safely to users’ needs. And add to that, our client's request that we create a solution that's both cost-effective and mass-producible. Every part of the project was about solving tough engineering challenges.
