🌍 PLANETech World 2024 Takeaways #6: “Growth Strategies: Maximizing Finance and Partnerships for Scaling” We're excited to share another key takeaway from the PLANETech World 2024 conference! Our goal is to bring these valuable insights to everyone, even those who couldn’t join us in person 😊. During a panel discussion, Dr. Adi Hoorvitch Lavi, PhD, Lihi Rabinowicz Segal, Matan Friedman, and Roee Furman, moderated by Lior Handelsman, explored critical growth strategies for scaling climate tech startups. Here are the highlights: 🤼 The Right Team: It’s a Known Fact—Success Comes from the Right People. While a standout product is critical, assembling the right founding team is equally essential, especially in deep tech climate solutions. Growth starts with having team members who not only bring expertise but also understand the specific industry they’re aiming to disrupt. From the very beginning, prioritize bringing on board those with the experience and drive to scale your company. When you have the right people in place, that’s when the real magic happens! 📜 Regulation Can Be the “Make or Break” of Your Venture: In climate tech, navigating regulation is often a bigger challenge compared to other sectors, particularly because these technologies are frequently tied to government infrastructure. From the early stages, startups need to be fully aware of and compliant with regulations across different jurisdictions and technologies. It’s also crucial to collaborate with regulators to help shape favorable policies and benefit from them. Often, regulators are willing to assist—they just need guidance on how to support innovation effectively. 💸 A Detailed Funding Roadmap is Crucial: Unlike in other industries, climate tech startups need a well-thought-out funding strategy that goes beyond traditional VC rounds. From government grants to corporate VC funding and loans, having a clear financial plan from the outset is key to securing ongoing support and scaling effectively. 🍄 Market Fit is Essential: Solving a problem that matters is crucial, but so is early validation. Climate tech startups often focus too heavily on the technical side, neglecting commercial growth. To attract growth equity and later-stage investments, you must demonstrate strong market feedback and commercial milestones alongside technological progress. Check the comments below for the link to the full panel discussion. A big thank you to our panelists for sharing their expertise and to our engaged audience! 🌍 PLANETech World 2024 Takeaways #5: “Staying Ahead of the Curve: Leveraging Dual-Use Technologies for Climate” We're excited to share another post in our series highlighting key takeaways from the insightful discussions at the PLANETech World 2024 conference. We believe it's essential to extend these insights beyond those who were lucky enough to be in the room 😊. The convergence of defense and climate technology is imminent, necessary, and full of opportunities. The session was led by Capital Nature. In a panel discussion moderated by Ofir Gomeh, our fantastic speakers—Galit Cohen from INSS Israel, Dr. Dr. Nadav Cohen from DDR&D (MAFAT) - Directorate of Defense Research & Development, Elital Markowitz from 8200Climate, and Peri Muttath from Israel Innovation Authority—explored this out-of-the-box intersection of climate and defense. Here are the key takeaways and insights from this thought-provoking discussion: ➡ Why is this an opportunity? Defense and climate challenges share commonalities—they are among the most pressing issues of our time, they require multidisciplinary solutions, and they can’t wait. Despite the challenges, both fields also represent significant opportunities. When combined, they create what might be the perfect storm of perfect opportunities! 🏹 Globally, governments, private enterprises, and research organizations are pooling resources to tackle both security threats and climate change through innovative projects. These range from mitigation technologies to adaptation and resilience solutions. 🔎 Exploring these initiatives, where solutions developed for one domain can be effectively applied to the other, offers invaluable insights into collective efforts to create a sustainable shield for the future. This is how you stay ahead of the curve! A big thank you to our panelists for their valuable insights and to our engaged audience. 🌍 PLANETech World 2024 Takeaways #4: "Corporate Climate Risk: Navigating the Challenges and Opportunities" We're excited to share another post in our series highlighting key takeaways from the insightful discussions at the PLANETech World 2024 conference. We believe it's essential to extend these insights beyond those who were lucky enough to be in the room 😊. As climate change continues to reshape our world, corporations are increasingly recognizing climate risks as material factors that can significantly impact their operations and long-term viability. On a panel discussion moderated by Arod B. from Deloitte, Orly Glick from ESGgo, Galit Ofer from Shibolet & Co. Shibolet ESG – Shibolet Consulting Ltd., Dr. Kim Kaivanto from Lancaster University, and Ben Reuveni from Honda Innovations discussed perspectives from legal, academic, and innovative sectors. Here are the key takeaways and interesting points from this insightful discussion: ⛈ *Climate risks* encompass physical risks (storms, floods, extreme heat), transition risks (business model changes), and other challenges and opportunities. 📊 *Data is central* to climate risk assessment, and leveraging AI tools is crucial for high-quality compliance. 📑 Regulatory pressures are increasing, with expected standardization from governments and trading blocs. 🌱 The growing sector of *Climate Service Providers* (think tanks, insurance companies, asset managers) supports large institutions in managing their climate risks. 💡 *Innovation* remains a strategic tool for corporates to mitigate transition risks and accelerate the transition to NetZero. You can find the link to the full discussion in the comments below. Thank you to our panelists for their valuable insights and to our engaged audience. 🌍 PLANETech World 2024 Takeaways #3: "Novel Materials x Climate: Making Things Better" We're excited to share another post in our series highlighting key takeaways from the insightful discussions at the PLANETech World 2024 conference. We believe it's essential to extend these insights beyond those who were lucky enough to be in the room 😊. Innovations such as low-carbon concrete, recycled materials, and advancements in circular economies and energy efficiency are prime examples of how sustainable solutions are mitigating climate impact and paving the way for a future where our built environment supports long-term environmental health. Our esteemed speakers— Dr. Ricardo Osiroff, Adital Ela, and Jack Levy —discussed on a panel moderated by Maayan Gossat Schwartz what startups are working on, how corporations are implementing and piloting these novel innovations, and the financing models supporting and driving these technological advancements. 🏭 Some of the most polluting building materials include concrete, which emits carbon dioxide during production, contributing to about 8% of global emissions. Steel production also generates large amounts of CO2 due to its reliance on coal. Plastics used in construction, such as PVC, release harmful chemicals and contribute to environmental pollution—the list goes on. ♻ Sustainable and novel materials are vital because of their reduced environmental impact compared to traditional materials. They conserve resources, promote a circular economy, and offer improved performance and innovation opportunities while aligning with regulatory and consumer preferences for eco-friendly products. This contributes to a more sustainable future. You can find the link to the full discussion in the comments below. Thank you to our panelists for their valuable insights and to our engaged audience!
