Regulatory frameworks around data privacy and security have been around for a few years now, but add AI to the picture and ‘all hell breaks loose’. The EU AI Act officially came into force on August 1st: What does that mean? The European Union passed the first risk-based regulation for applications of artificial intelligence in March of this year, and now that the full text has been published, the regulation is in force as of August 1st, 2024. This means that all compliance deadlines that companies must meet will be tied to that date. With the Act now in effect, businesses operating in the EU will have strict obligations for high-risk AI systems, making it critical for companies to review and adjust their AI practices immediately. But the Act doesn't only apply to high-risk systems, it also has tight Transparency mandates for AI systems that interact with humans or generate content, ensuring users are informed when they're engaging with AI. At this point, we all know that there's much more GenAI out there that just ChatGPT... So much of it, that it's impossible to keep track of it with static lists. A customer recently flagged us that we had classified Google Docs as having an AI component and automatically applied the corresponding policy...
