  • To our treasured students, alumni and community, This past year has been one of the hardest we have ever faced. It is almost impossible to believe that one year has passed since that dark Saturday. A year of endless and unimaginable pain, but also one of determination and hope. We remember, and we will always remember, the lives brutally murdered, kidnapped and destroyed, the dreams shattered and the families torn apart. Our hearts are with the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones and who carry an unbearable loss with them every day. We wish the injured a full recovery, physically and mentally, and we pray for the speedy return of all hostages to their families’ embrace. We wish to express our deepest gratitude to our students and faculty members who serve in the reserves and continue to defend us. Your support and contribution to the country and Israeli society inspire us all. May we know only days of tranquility, peace and safety. May we merit to see the speedy and safe return of all the hostages, and of all our soldiers to their families’ embrace. 🎗️

  • This Rosh Hashanah, we find ourselves in a complex and challenging reality. We extend to all our heartfelt wishes that this Rosh Hashanah will usher in a year in which we will learn, reflect, grow, make a difference, and grow stronger together. May this new year bring the speedy return of all the hostages, a full recovery for the injured, physically and emotionally, and the safe return of all our soldiers.

  • “From the moment we’re born, we’re part of a social organization – our family,” began Ms. Mika Guzikevits, Hebrew University Business School lecturer, “and of course, the same is true of business. When we look at the human resources aspect of any organization or corporate entity, we try to understand how people behave when in a social environment and how organizations operate within their internal and external environments” While mandatory for MBA students with no business or psychology background, the introductory course, “Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management,” is far from basic. “The course is meant to create a toolkit both theoretical and practical that will help students to better perceive, understand and influence people in the social environments in which they work and live,” Mika said. “Because it’s introductory, we cover the main basic concepts and theories of organizational behavior, and we strive to create a strong grounding for those advancing into the specialization and field.” The course traces important social aspects in any organization from the micro to the macro levels. “For example, we look into human perception and learning processes, different biases and how they affect decision-making, we cover theories of motivation and leadership, as well as group dynamics, and organizational culture” explained Mika. “Fundamentally, we are teaching students to understand the complexity that comes with human interaction.” “Accordingly, we do our best to connect what we teach to the students’ actual experiences and/or organizations they have worked or are still working for. A large part of the assignments relies on their own experiences, and we encourage group discussions. Given that Israeli and international students can study this course together, the students often get different perspectives on the material which are extremely interesting.” “I might be biased because I did my BA, MA, MBA and am currently working on my PhD here at the Hebrew University,” Mika laughed, “but there are great courses you can do here at HUBS. You can get a taste of everything. To the new students, I recommend reading the different syllabuses of each course and even going to the first class of whatever seems interesting to you even if you don’t continue with it. Also, one of the best things you can get from an MBA is the connection with other students. Invest in relationships and get to know your classmates because the connections you create are really invaluable.”

  • “Decision-making is a daily act in business as well as in life. So how do you actually decide? In my opinion, it's the deep understanding that decision making is actually a tradeoff between risk and control.” – Michal Malinovitch, HUBS Lecturer. For managers looking beyond local borders, there are several factors to consider. Ms. Michal Malinovitch, who teaches the MBA course International Business Strategy, offered a brief overview of what students can expect from the course. It all starts with four main questions: why to expand overseas, where to expand, when the right time is, and how to do it. “When a company looks at expanding internationally, we first need to justify why is it a necessary move from the firm’s point of view and with regard to its business environment. From there, we need to understand the pros and cons of choosing the target country from several aspects: political, cultural, economic and more; particularly if the firm can leverage its competitive advantage within the respective industry in the target country. The next stage is to find a way to penetrate the new market, as there is more than one option to do so. Here again, we hone decision-making skills.  True to the Business School’s ethos of real-world application, Michal stressed that: “I put a lot of weight on practical experience. Every second class is a guest lecture by top managers and executives in Israel from both the corporate and startup worlds. I bring examples and dilemmas from my personal experience in global business as it is essential to me that the students get first-hand stories of real-life experiences”  Looking forward to the upcoming year, Michal said: “We are facing unprecedented and difficult times, particularly for Israelis. However, with our culture of breakthrough thinking, innovation, and entrepreneurship, we have much to offer the world. For incoming students, I would say: try to enjoy the process. It's not a matter of grades. Enjoy, learn and gain insights into both your personal and professional life."
