First reveal of Possible One: Lunar Industries gets over 1000 Wishlists!
Six years ago, a series of thoughts led me to realize that while the gaming world constantly seeks new challenges, very few developers had created a realistic strategic space simulator. I felt that sci-fi, while wonderful in many ways, had often given a false impression of real outer space and its many challenges. Despite the popularity of sci-fi, the real story, in a sense, was not being told.
This led me to a bold assumption: That there is a market of players who feel the same way. That many strategy, space, colony, and sci-fi enthusiasts who would crave such a game if they could find it.
But of course I couldn’t be sure. I had some indicators, from the popularity of The Martian and For All Mankind and the clear surge of many other kinds of simulation game on Steam. But still, I couldn’t be definitive.
Three years ago we founded Upstairs and developed our game based on my assumption, from prototype to the pre alpha. Along the way we raised some funds and spoke to many publishers at conferences about the game. But we had never shown it in public before last weekend at a small booth at PAX West, launching our trailer and Steam page, and talking to players one on one.
The response was overwhelming. "This is definitely up my alley" was something I kept hearing repeatedly. Players wishlisted the game on the spot, tried the demo, and some even finished it at the show. It was the validation we needed after three intense years of development. In one weekend of Pax me and my team talked to around 400 people, and collected more than 1000 wishlists from a start of zero.
It was a truly enlightening experience and marked a significant milestone for Upstairs Games. Now we go forward with a renewed spirit toward Early Access! Please check out the trailer https://lnkd.in/dMrmyxG7 and get in touch if you’d like to know more.
PS: I want to thank Tadhg Kelly our devoted brilliant game designer for helping us shape the demo we showed to receive such positive and warm response. Also thanks to Robert Brown and his wonderful Stride PR team for all the work they invested, and especially Noah Vaca who supported us every day.
And of course thanks to my gifted team at Upstairs Games. You guys have stuck with me through a journey that some said was impossible. Let’s push the limits of possible!
