One of the biggest mistakes founders make is hiring a VP Sales (or a VP Marketing) too early. Omer (CEO) and Roi (CTO) are co-founders with technical backgrounds (they worked together in an elite unit in the army) - they had a great startup idea, raised money, built a product with some design partners, and started selling. They approached relevant prospect enterprises through all possible channels, but gained limited interest and very few sales. They realized that they didn't have a sales background or understanding of the US market, so they hired an experienced VP Sales, US-based, who led a startup to a successful exit and worked afterward in some of the best tech companies. With compensation of almost $300K a year and great recommendations, the founders had high expectations. A few months later, when things didn't move, he explained to them that building these processes takes time, plus he will need to build a small team first. Without them noticing 10 months went by with no deals signed and very limited pipeline - that didn't look promising. After burning valuable time and money they let go of the VP Sales and had to start again from zero with a tight schedule. So what went wrong? Experienced VP Sales are not a good fit for early stage startups - 1. They are not scrappy 2. They no longer feel comfortable doing cold reachout 3. They are too comfortable Your sales hire should fit the stage you are at, and your first sales should be founder-led, to improve your product market fit. IVC Data and Insights report on the Israeli venture market for Q1-Q3 2024 reveals: - $7.4 billion invested in Israeli startups, surpassing the entire 2023 total of $6.9 billion. - $13 billion generated from exits, a 26% increase from 2023's $10.4 billion. - 23% surge in foreign investments year-over-year. - 67% of capital sourced from global investors, with 33% from Israeli funds. - $2.7 billion secured by early-stage startups, the second-highest figure in Israeli startup ecosystem history (after 2022's record). One of Gary Vaynerchuk's most frequent phrases is "arbitrage". For him, it is finding something at a garage sale that can be resold for much much more on eBay. There is significant areas of arbitrage opportunity in today's world. 1. Traveling medicine. Yes, there are many areas where there are not enough doctors and nurses. 2. Language skills. Many non-native English speaking countries have a hard time selling cross boarders because they can not effectively communicate in native English. Thank you to Andrew Jacobson for his post below. 3. Food. America is blessed with more food than it has ever had available at any previous time in history. But things are changing quickly: FDA is working on updates to food coloring; there are shortages in poultry due; and other issues. The opportunity here is to offer a chemical free natural food coloring. Or an alternative to chicken. Both are coming. 4. Education. No, college is not for everyone. And no, not every job "needs" a degree (nor should they). There are so many education options. I don't want to use the word alternative, because it is not a situation where someone things "well fine since I can't get a degree I am going for an alternative program". Codie A. Sanchez pitches the boring trades: plumbing, electrical, HVAC, roofing. Here is the arbitrage: you start working after a very short training program, and will make more than many college graduates because these jobs are very much less cyclical.

Some Fresh Stats on Israeli Social Media Here are some fresh stats on Israeli social media that I'll use to once again praise TikTok and convince you to start advertising there. As of today: TikTok has ~4.5 million users in Israel. Facebook and Instagram have roughly the same number of users. There is a significant overlap between these platforms, meaning the average Israeli adult is active on all three social networks and consumes content across them. However, when it comes to ad reach, the picture is different: TikTok's ad reach among adult Israelis is 72.6%, while Facebook and Instagram have around 50%. Instagram traditionally has a higher female audience (around 53%), while all other social networks have a more balanced gender distribution (around 48%). YouTube, of course, dominates with: 6.92 million users. An ad reach of 74.9% of the total population. Key takeaways: Create more videos and use them for advertising. Don't ignore TikTok and YouTube. Continue running ads on Facebook and Instagram. Come to us (the professionals) for great advertising. Additional points to consider: TikTok is particularly popular among younger demographics, making it an ideal platform for reaching Gen Z and millennials. YouTube is a powerful tool for building brand awareness and driving long-term engagement. Facebook and Instagram can be effective for targeting specific demographics and interests. By using a mix of social media platforms and tailoring your advertising strategy to each one, you can reach a wider audience and achieve your marketing goals. Remember, the key is to create high-quality, engaging content that resonates with your target audience.
