Reposting this thought-provoking question from our CEO on the role of protest in a post-Twitter world. It raises an important point about the disparity in sentences handed down to peaceful climate protesters causing disruption versus those who engage in violence during race riots. As we continue to plow our way through social justice and activism, it's essential that we examine the underlying reasons for these discrepancies and work towards a more equitable system. #protest #climatechange #socialjustice #activism #equity Share

Did you know that everything in nature is interconnected and that humans are part of this complex system? In this thought-provoking conversation, ecologist Jane Stout shares her journey of falling in love with nature and explains why biodiversity is crucial for our survival and well-being. As she puts it, "Biodiversity is short for biological diversity, and it's just the variety of life. It's the variety of habitats, the variety of species that live in those habitats, and the genetic diversity within those species." But why does biodiversity matter, and what can we do to protect it? Jane discusses the importance of biodiversity for ecosystem functions, food production, and human health, and she highlights the role of businesses in promoting biodiversity through sustainable practices. Watch the full video to learn more about the fascinating world of biodiversity and how we can all contribute to its conservation. https://bit.ly/4dy9A6J Don't forget to hit the subscribe button if you enjoy the conversations! 👍🔔 #biodiversity #sustainability #podcast #climatechange

Tires - An Environmental Disaster Waiting to Happen A recent episode of the Conversations on Climate podcast with Nick Molden sheds light on the shockingly poor environmental impact of modern tire manufacturing. According to Molden, today's tires are up to 5 times more harmful to the environment than those produced in the past. The core issue seems to be a lack of robust regulations and oversight within the tire industry. Manufacturers are prioritising cost-cutting and short-term profits over sustainability and environmental responsibility. This has led to the use of cheaper, more polluting materials and production processes that generate significantly higher carbon emissions and waste. As Nick Malden eloquently stated in the video, "Tires are the unsung environmental villains of the automotive world. Their ecological impact is staggering, yet it remains largely overlooked and unaddressed." This needs to change, and change quickly, if we have any hope of achieving meaningful climate goals. The stakes are simply too high to ignore this issue any longer. The tires on our vehicles are contributing mightily to the climate crisis and it's time we hold the industry accountable. Watch this episode for the full low down on the EV and tire industry for more cutting information. Interesting read about the challenges facing the World Bank and its role in global development. While the Bank has made significant contributions to reducing poverty and promoting economic growth in many countries, it has also faced criticism for its policies and practices. Thoughts, please 🤔

Can the World Bank save itself?    Ask most people what the most powerful address in the world is, and they’ll say one place: Washington DC.   1660 Pennsyvania Avenue, home of the White House, certainly has a strong case. But there is more to life than American politics. The most powerful place in the world is 19th Street, Washington – home of the IMF and World Bank. Both hold huge power and influence over where money flows in the world – and under what terms.    These two institutions have done more to shape the global order than any apart from the UN. But 2024 sees neither in good health.   The Global South remains mired in debt traps and austerity, and the neoliberal consensus is to blame. At the same time, neither seems to have a clue what to do about climate change, and the trillions in mitigation and adaptation funding it demands.   The Bank in particular seems unable to solve the problems of the 21st century.   It’s time to change – or die.   Here’s how it might survive.   First, it needs to radically reshape its leadership.   For too long, rich countries have hogged decision-making power. But it’s the BRICS and the South who are driving our economic future. They need a seat at the table.   Second, the Bank needs a new, climate-focussed mission. 21st-century development is all about green resilience, and the institution needs to work with recipients to meet that need.   Finally, the Bank needs to stop making things worse. It still spends billions financing fossil fuel projects in the name of growth. That’s indefensible today.   If 19th Street can find the courage to make those changes, it might become a force for positive change.   Otherwise, it will end up just another historic landmark on the Washington Tourist Trail.   Interested to read more? What would their mission be? How would the globe hold them to account? I’d love to hear from you

Here are the key steps for a business to publicly declare and commit to climate action through Business Declares a not-for-profit organisation: 🔹 Declare Climate Commitment: The business should publish a clear statement on their website and other public channels declaring their commitment to addressing climate change. This declaration should outline the company's high-level climate goals and targets. 🔹 Develop Climate Action Plan: The business should create a detailed, comprehensive climate action plan that outlines the specific actions they will take to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and environmental impact. This plan should cover both carbon emissions reduction as well as nature-based solutions. 🔹Disclose Progress Transparently: The business should commit to regularly disclosing their progress against their climate action plan. This could involve publishing annual sustainability reports, updating their website, or participating in climate disclosure frameworks like CDP. 🔹Engage in Conversation: The business should be willing to engage in follow-up meetings and conversations with stakeholders, such as customers, investors, and advocacy groups, to discuss their climate efforts, challenges, and future plans. This open dialogue can help build trust and accountability. 🔹 Seek External Assistance: The business may need to work with climate experts, consultants, or non-profit organisations to help develop their climate plan, measure emissions, and implement reduction strategies. These partners can provide valuable guidance and support. The key is for the business to make a public, credible, and comprehensive commitment to climate action, with transparent reporting on progress and a willingness to engage in dialogue with stakeholders. This helps demonstrate real climate leadership and accountability. 👀 For more information on how to join this exciting venture tune in to the full conversation on The Conversations on Climate Podcast. https://bit.ly/46M8Rws #climateaction #netzero #sustainablebusiness #climatetransparency #esg
