Accelerate Indian Philanthropy (AIP) recently facilitated a field visit to Lucknow and neighbouring villages, in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, for our network members. The visit aimed to give an overview of the healthcare focused system-strengthening work being done with the state National Health Mission in Uttar Pradesh, in collaboration with partner orgs like Jhpiego, World Health Organization, and UNICEF. The 2-days visit helped us understand the public healthcare system, ranging from Sub-Centres, Primary Healthcare Centres to Community Centres. There was a deeper understanding of rural demographics and community level practices along with how tools like technology, training and awareness programs leveraged at a government women and child healthcare facility in Lucknow. About us
We aim to build an institution that is at the vanguard of philanthropic giving, transforming the strategic giving landscape in India. Our mission is to work with individuals and families (in India and globally) to create long-term and sustainable impact across a range of mission critical domains. We are supported by leading Indian philanthropists who have successfully built institutions and funded organisations that are experts in their specific domain. These philanthropists bring an Indian ethos to giving, deep operating knowledge of various sectors, and experience in partnering with government on both policy and grassroots level implementation. About the Founders: Ashish Dhawan is one of India’s leading philanthropists. He founded and ran one of India’s first private equity funds, ChrysCapital, and in the last decade has helped build successful institutions (for e.g., Ashoka University) and strategic foundations (for e.g., Central Square Foundation, which works on school education reform). More recently, these include the portfolio organisations listed above, which are working on building a better understanding between India and East Asia, improving the performance of the public sector, solving the air pollution crisis, and improving the pipeline of leadership and talent in the social sector.

#Collaborating through the collective and celebrating wins while contemplating solutions – “philanthropy...now a #convergence of many forces that promises to reshape the landscape of #giving”. In this detailed article by Rohini Nilekani (Chairperson, Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies) and Core-Founder, Accelerate Indian Philanthropy (AIP), covering 4 recent philanthropic events she attended in Mumbai over the span of 2 days - AIP-BCG’s ‘Wealth with Purpose: A Report on Private Indian Philanthropy’ has been quoted for scaled giving. She further elaborates how philanthropy is transitioning to strategic and impactful engagements led by young, first-generation wealth creators…funders showing more curiosity and sharing more knowledge than ever before. Crediting Intermediary organizations similar to ours, she remarks how they “have also been very effective in opening up minds, hearts and pockets.” Read the article in The Indian Express, on how “India’s wealthy elite is turning a collectively serious mind to giving more, better and faster”- https://lnkd.in/dmxY_WwT. “The wealthy seem readier to be rainmakers” - Delve further into Philanthropic archetypes – Rainmakers and more in the report https://lnkd.in/gpAAVx_V. "It is up to the wealthy to show the country why wealth creation has been a net positive in India. No society or country will tolerate for too long the continued accumulation of wealth in a few hands, unless that private wealth works and is seen to work for the public good." Rohini Nilekani (Chairperson, RNP), while urging the country’s wealthy to step up, shares how Indian givers are tilting towards a more collaborative model of #philanthropy. Amit Chandra, Partner and India Chairman of Bain Capital, in his conversation with LiveMint, discussed why Indians need to give more, and further give sooner and better. Reflecting on the recently launched Accelerate Indian Philanthropy (AIP) and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) report ‘WEALTH WITH PURPOSE’, he emphasized on strategic and organized #philanthropy. Following and advocating Chuck Feeney’s “Giving while Living” philosophy, Chandra and his wife Archana Chandra donate 90% of their annual net income and plan to give away over 90% of their wealth during their lifetime. Chandra highlights that philanthropy is not just about #money but also about dedicating time and engaging with the #community. He spends half his time on philanthropic efforts, and rest on his business, “philanthropy gives me a sense of purpose, leading Bain Capital gives me the ability to pay for it". Interspersing the report findings with his own ‘giving journey’, some key points mentioned in the article titled ‘PHILANTHROPY CAN MAKE INDIANS CARE MORE ABOUT INDIA: BAIN CAPITAL'S AMIT CHANDRA’, include: 👉 Formalizing Philanthropy - (Amit has come together with Ashish Dhawan, Rohini Nilekani and Vishal Tulsyan as Co-Founders to set up Accelerate Indian Philanthropy (AIP)). 👉 Young First-Generation Wealth Creators - (Amit underscores the need for efficient giving frameworks, particularly as more young wealth creators’ step into philanthropy). 👉 Raising Retail Philanthropists - (The report notes a rise in #retail philanthropy, driven by socially conscious #younger generations prioritizing societal engagements over material possessions. This trend reflects a transition towards more impactful #giving in India). 👉 Philanthropy can make Indians care more about India - (“Philanthropy can significantly enhance societal and governmental efforts…and can help bridge gaps that #government efforts alone cannot address"). “Today, roughly ₹25,000 crore are donated every year in India for philanthropic purposes. This can grow 3X," remarks Amitabh Jaipuria, CEO, AIP. 👉For more statistical data, read the report here: https://lnkd.in/gpAAVx_V 👉Read more on the article here: https://lnkd.in/ghNH-d6e A.T.E.
