    Airtel Odisha celebrated the power and joy of womanhood and we’re loving it! Raja Parba also known as “Mithuna Sankranti”, is a three-day festival commemorating womanhood and Airtel Odisha celebrated it with full gusto. This festival marks the beginning of the monsoon season and is dedicated to honoring womanhood, fertility, and the earth’s rejuvenation. Several traditions and activities that are observed during the festival were brought to life at offices, at the zone level and also for field TSM and account managers! Decorated swings were set up, women dressed in traditional wear, special delicacies like the Poda Pitha were distributed, and a lot of traditional festival games were played. All in all, a joyful celebration that is a wonderful affirmation of the important role of women and nature in the community.     Airtel sets the bar so high that one is compelled to come back to it! Meet Deepika Damuluri, Sr. Manager, Home Delivery Organisation, AP&T circle, whose return to Airtel was a homecoming she was very much looking forward to. A veteran of Network Services, Deepika had an accomplished stint in Airtel for 4 years where she rose through the ranks and flourished. And when a promising opportunity came up in another organisation which was physically closer to home, Deepika took the decision to move on from Airtel. She accepted the offer to explore how growth would be, outside the organisation. Deepika spent a good 7 years learning the ropes and rising up the ladder and when an opportunity to come home to Airtel arose, she took it up without hesitation. She could not pass up on the chance to return to the fold and a workplace that she really respected. Some of the highlights of working at Airtel for her continue to be professionalism, corporate culture, and the cross functional teams’ interactions that helps departments understand each other’s needs well. She finds that Airtel really walks the talk on diversity and inclusion without bias, which really is a plus for the women workforce. She also states how the organisation has a strong culture of transparency and learning - through ‘townhalls’, cross functional team projects, professional development programs and also, peer learning! Another factor for Deepika that is a matter of much pride is that Airtel is a ‘people’s organisation’. Employees are treated as family and fully supported in all aspects.     “He who plants a tree, plants a hope” - Lucy Larcom It’s been a month of momentous “green” activity at Airtel with multiple tree planting drives. Airtel Karnataka organized a large-scale one planting 625 trees across KK circle, at Bengaluru! Airtel J&K circle took a significant step towards environment sustainability by donating and planting the trees as well. Airtel UPW Circle also conducted a tree planting drive in observance of World Environment Day. Much like Jag Mishra, Assistant Manager, Customer Experience, Karnataka Circle. For Jag, seeking a resolution to issues, even the more dormant ones, is second nature. Which is why, when Jag and his team started to receive complaints from customers on outage and down-time in his circle, Jag took it upon himself to train his team and proactively address similar potential issues with other customers where there was a possibility of outage or downtime incidents occurring in the near future. To bring the situation under control, Jag and team had to undertake cumbersome and humongous tasks like identifying devices that were in an end-of-life state from a large base of customers from multiple segments. The team then needed to address ground-level challenges, such as scheduling downtime, aligning cross-functional teams for execution, and completing the activity according to the customer's timeline. But in the end the team’s efforts paid off and they won the loyalty of customers. When you make yourself accountable for doing good, just because you can, you become a leader, an inspiration for many to leapfrog into doing more and being more. How will you inspire today?     “Boond boond se sagar banta hai” - Indian Proverb When the goal is very ambitious, small steps taken to achieve it can have a larger impact than we think they do. This is a similar story of steps taken by our Cross Functional Team comprising of Devices Sourcing Team, Network Team and ESG Team, who made the big switch in SIM card material from Virgin Plastic to Recycled Plastic. It all started with Airtel’s commitment to sustainable development. This overarching goal was broken down into smaller objectives like reducing greenhouse gases and promoting circularity with supplier partners and stakeholders, promoting green initiatives. Airtel’s Devices Sourcing Team took the challenge to contribute to Airtel’s sustainability initiatives and focused on how to make the production of our ‘bread and butter product’, the SIM card, more circular and encouraged supplier partners to reduce waste, recycle and reuse. The team was keen to make the SIM card green in some way because this is the product that reaches the customers and it would be great to add value to this. And so the idea of switching to recycled plastic SIM cards was born. There were many obstacles to cross like aligning the supplier partners, working on the complete supply chain, testing of the new card on all devices, and ensuring that we are not compromising at all on any specifications. This was a sustainability initiative led completely by the supply chain team and the team left no stone unturned to make this initiative a reality including reaching out to other teams like Network and ESG to help with execution.  An industry first in India, this migration to recycled plastic will help limit the generation of virgin plastic by over 165 tonnes and reduce the generation of over 690 tonnes of CO2 equivalent in a year. Airtel purchases more than 200 million SIM cards every year so imagine the impact of this green initiative in reducing carbon emission! The sustainability initiative was achieved with conviction from a committed Cross Functional Team which worked in unison to make this switch smoothly! This team has proven how you can achieve limitless impact by taking a very small step in the right direction and this will be their shining legacy! What will be your legacy in the world?
