Alluvium Group in India is looking for a full-time / part-time / freelance consultant for climate analytics work in the region. An ideal professionals for this role should have extensive knowledge and experience of dynamic downscaling of global climate models along with integration of climate analytics with geo-spatial analytics, geo-hazard modelling and vulnerability / exposure analysis and AI/ML (deep learning using neural network). Capacity Building Program in Integrated River Basin Management (IRBM) Alluvium Group in partnership with Griffith University, Griffith International Development Unit and International WaterCentre hosted a delegation from Nepal and Sri Lanka for a 2-week short course titled Capacity Building Program in Integrated River Basin Management (IRBM). The short course was funded by Australia Awards in South Asia and Mongolia (an Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade program run by Palladium: Make It Possible. BasinGuide (https://lnkd.in/grMfwXwE) was used as a foundational framework for the course as it describes the Australian experience in integrated river management and implementation and presents the key stages of basin planning. The first week was held in Brisbane to allow for direct engagement with key Queensland Government representatives along with Griffith experts and other stakeholders across the landscape of water resource management; climate resilience; data collection and management. The second week brought participants to the most well-known integrated river basin management journey in Australia - the Murray-Darling Basin. In Canberra, participants got the opportunity to visit Government agencies such as the Murray-Darling Basin Authority and CSIRO. It also included technical presentations and panel sessions with Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, Geoscience Australia, Bureau of Meteorology, Australian Water Partnership, DG Consulting, NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, and Natural Capital Economics. These discussions focussed on Australia’s policies and positions on IRBM (and its applications to their local context), the roles of other stakeholders in State and local governments, and private corporations. The second week also included several site visits in the Murray-Darling Basin including Snowy Hydro Limited, Hume Dam (WaterNSW) and Goulburn-Murray Water. Travelling down the Murray River basin and stopping at various points of interest and relevant institutions was a hands-on, highly engaging approach to learning and combined theoretical inputs with the opportunity to see policy being put into action. The course concluded in Melbourne, with participants presenting on their individual basin leadership journey through a return-to-work plan. We would like to thank all the guest speakers and agencies for their valuable time and wish good luck to all the participants for their future endeavours.

On request of Nagpur Municipal Corporation, Alluvium Group in India have recently presented the findings and high level recommendations of Heat Risk Assessment of Nagpur city to the Heat Action Plan committee for action on the heat risk preparedness as the city is reeling under intense heat wave condition. This assessment has been undertaken as part of our ongoing engagement with UNDP in India on “ Geo-spatial Analysis of Flood and Heatwave Risk in Nagpur City for Urban Local Planning”. Alluvium Group

Krishna is an Environmental Engineer with work experience in design and engineering for water sector projects. He has keen interest in Sustainable Design Engineering. He has experience of working with both private and government agencies on a wide range of sustainable development projects. He specialized in using digital engineering tools such as Civil 3D, AutoCAD, SewerGEMS etc. to integrate environmental design and analysis principles in the water sector projects. Krishna will be supporting both India and global projects with his digital engineering and design engineering skills. Welcome Krishna in the Alluvium Group family!

The Alluvium Group has been working in India since 2016. With business registration occurring 2021 we are now officially 3 years old. It's a significant milestone to cross in our journey. The journey was filled with mixed bag of stories - stories of success, failure, ups and downs, happiness and conflicts. But at the end of 3rd year, we are growing and growing strong. As there are multiple news about potential severe heatwave conditions across India this summer, this #knowledgesharing article highlights about why should we be worrying about heat stress not just for this year but till 2050 and beyond. Vulnerable and poor communities will be most affected by this invisible risk (extreme heat condition) as they lack access to expensive cooling systems (air conditioners) and/ or likely to work in open to sky condition (under direct sunlight) or live in dense settlements (without appropriate ventilation). Therefore, to better adapt with the rising risks of heat stress, this article argues that decision-makers should immediately start considering Passive Cooling Strategy to safeguard vulnerable populations and to minimize loss of life as well as loss of economic productivity. Decision-makers of different scales (asset level, neighbourhood level, city level, district level and national level) must act quickly (in consultation with communities and civil societies) to implement appropriate passive colling solutions.
