As we embark into the 4th year of being in the sustainable fashion business, my heart fills with gratitude and looking at how far we’ve come as a brand. But let me also tell you the reality without sugar coating and saying we are a huge success. Firstly, for anyone who envies an entrepreneur’s life let me tell you have got it all wrong. I am not trying to make it a corporate vs entrepreneur debate. Just putting it out there that you need patience like the Earth, grit like Fire, persistent perseverance like the waves and just discipline from the Gods. It takes immense courage to put that trust in yourself when no one else does and to go ahead with an idea that does not enough “data”, to back up your gut feeling. It goes without saying that every dream needs to be backed up with startegy and data and all of that. But Anyà was my Passion Project to put it very bluntly. I started this brand in my grandmother’s tiny house with 20,000/- rupees outsourcing everything, with two racks that I lugged around Crawford market because I didn’t have extra to pay the cart-man. That was my first big but tiny victory as silly as that may sound to you. As a sustainable entrepreneur I think I have been everything that I could possibly be for this brand, from the studio cleaner to the CEO; just like a baby demands its mother to. I think so far I have done a decent job and of course tones of mistakes to learn from. Just like many other sustainable home grown brand the brand is reaching a point of swim or sink; a point of should I say goodbye or should I give it my all in the last push. If there is one important thing that I have learnt in these 3 years is that no one knows what they are doing. Not the biggest Ninjas in their secure well paid jobs nor a bunch of us who think that our brand will change the world in some way. But what we must absolutely NOT do is GIVE UP. Listen to that gut, it may not make sense to anyone but if that tiny voice in there says one last time; just try. DO IT. Give it your all, give it your best. So on that note, with a brave heart I am going to say, Happy 4 to us!! May we give it our all and have a great come back for the 5th. - Nitya Chandrasekhar
