AI is the new topic of discussion everywhere, including our office meetings. A friend’s thought which resonated with me was – “I would want AI to do all my clerical work for me, and not my designing and thinking”. As a creative person this really struck a chord. We are slowly getting pushed into becoming a community who do not think for ourselves. From our email responses to video, pictures, LinkedIn posts, everything is run by some sort of AI tool before using. The funniest part is when the AI generates a robotic response, we prompt it to ‘humanize’ the response to make it more relatable. I am equally guilty of doing all the above. What AI offers is truly fascinating, and its potential is immense. Moving with the times and growing with new technology is always a good approach. But as a thinking human the fear is, since AI has become the modern-day crutch, we will forget how to apply ourselves. We will reach a stage where we begin to apply ourselves only the way the application requires us to. AI if used intelligently, can be a great tool to enhance an individual’s skillset. Let it not replace skillsets and individuality. To sum it up, this seems to be a battle of roles between thinking humans and AI, and I would not want to concede defeat. PS – Unlike all my other posts, this post has not been run via any AI tool, so please excuse and accept the human errors!

Home, School and College, are the foundational influences in our behaviour and thinking. But the workplace, particularly in the early years of one's career is pivotal in shaping professional skills and personal growth. The recurring dialogue about architectural education often centers on how a five-year course alone cannot fully prepare someone for the demands of professional life. This is why it's important for young architects to work in offices that focus on employee development. In my experience, growth happens when knowledge and experience are shared, when employees are trusted with responsibilities and recognized for their efforts, and when open dialogue is encouraged. Most importantly it’s about creating an environment of trust, respect, and transparency. I am grateful to have encountered teachers and mentors throughout my professional journey who have inspired me primarily with their actions and behaviour. They were brutally honest, yet respectful, encouraging me to think independently while helping me broaden my horizons and were always open to dialogue. After years in professional practice, I can still turn to them for some solid advice. The hope is to work towards instilling these same values, offering the same support and encouragement to budding professionals.
