You can now predict the complex 3D structures of proteins!! It was a 50 years old challenge which is solved by Hassabis and John Jumper...... 👇 The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2024 is awarded with one half to David Baker “for #computational protein design” and the other half jointly to Demis Hassabis and John M. Jumper “for protein structure prediction”. Demis Hassabis and John Jumper have successfully utilised #artificial_intelligence to predict the structure of almost all known #proteins. David Baker has learned how to master life’s building blocks and create entirely new proteins. David Baker has achieved the extraordinary feat of designing entirely new proteins, while Demis Hassabis and John Jumper have developed an artificial intelligence (AI) model to solve a 50 Year-old challenge: predicting the complex three-dimensional structures of proteins. 👉 Hassabis and Jumper created an artificial intelligence model that has been able to predict the structure of virtually all the 200 million proteins that researchers have identified #proteins #computationalbiology #Modeling #protein #3d #biotech #biotechnology

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the year 2024 has been awarded to scientists Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun for their discovery of microRNA and its role in post-transcriptional gene regulation. MicroRNA is a fundamental principle governing how gene activity is regulated. Announcing the decision, the Nobel Assembly of Sweden’s Karolinska Institutet, a research-led medical university in Stockholm stated that the discovery made by these two scientists has proven to be fundamentally important for understanding how organisms develop and function. #nobelprize #medicine #microRNA #biotech #evolution #generegulation BIOTECH WORLD INDIA

Why is autoclave set to 121 degree Celsius???

View profile for KESHAV SINGH, graphic

Assistant Professor Biotechnology ll M.Tech II Founder at BIOTECH WORLD INDIA ll A learner always ll Building Biocommunity

Ever wondered why the temperature of an autoclave is set to 121 degree Celsius??? The temperature of an autoclave is set to 121 degrees Celsius because this specific temperature, combined with the pressure inside the autoclave, is highly effective at killing a wide range of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, and spores. Here are the key reasons: 1. Effective Sterilization: At 121°C, the steam generated under pressure can penetrate materials and effectively kill microorganisms by denaturing their proteins and disrupting their cellular structures. 2. Pressure and Temperature Combination: The autoclave operates at a pressure of about 15 psi (pounds per square inch), which allows the steam to reach 121°C. This combination of high temperature and pressure ensures that even the most resistant spores are destroyed. 3. Standardization: The 121°C temperature is a widely accepted standard in laboratories and medical settings, ensuring consistent and reliable sterilization across different equipment and materials. 4. Efficiency: This temperature allows for relatively quick sterilization cycles, typically around 15-20 minutes, making it practical for routine use. Also, one of the most notable microbes killed at 121 degrees Celsius is Geobacillus stearothermophilus (formerly known as Bacillus stearothermophilus). This bacterium is particularly resistant to heat and is often used as a biological indicator to test the effectiveness of autoclave sterilization processes. The spores of Geobacillus stearothermophilus are known to be killed in about 12 minutes at 121°C. You can add down your points below 👇 KESHAV SINGH #biotechnology #biotech #sharing #biotechindia
