Here are the key reasons: 1. Effective Sterilization: At 121°C, the steam generated under pressure can penetrate materials and effectively kill microorganisms by denaturing their proteins and disrupting their cellular structures. 2. Pressure and Temperature Combination: The autoclave operates at a pressure of about 15 psi (pounds per square inch), which allows the steam to reach 121°C. This combination of high temperature and pressure ensures that even the most resistant spores are destroyed. 3. Standardization: The 121°C temperature is a widely accepted standard in laboratories and medical settings, ensuring consistent and reliable sterilization across different equipment and materials. 4.
