About us
Bringing robust flavours and intriguing dishes from the streets and homes of Burma to your table is Burma Burma, the only Pan India specialty Burmese cuisine restaurant and tea room. It celebrates the culture, taste, and cooking styles of this fascinating and largely unexplored country, bringing Burmese culture to life in a way that’s never been done before. Founded by childhood friends, Chirag Chhajer & Ankit Gupta, Burma Burma (Hunger Pangs Pvt. Ltd.) currently owns 10 restaurants and a delivery kitchen across the country. The concept hails from Gupta's Burmese roots. His mother and her family who were brought up in Burma had a great influence, expanding his food platter with heady flavours of Burmese cuisine. Armed with the concept and design he approached his friend Chirag Chhajer, a food enthusiast, and avid traveller, to bring Burmese food to Indian tables. An ode to the people and culture of Burma, it offers a unique amalgamation of Burma’s migrant food cultures, street food, and age-old homestyle cooking melded with indigenous ingredients, presented in a contemporary format. The ever-evolving menu comprises dishes and beverages borrowed and replicated from its street food and tribal and heirloom recipes. We are delighted to be featured in Travel + Leisure India & South Asia. Over the past decade, Burma Burma, co-founded by Ankit Gupta and Chirag Chhajer, has evolved into a celebrated restaurant chain with 13 restaurants and delivery kitchens across Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. During the initial days to test the waters, pop-ups were organised in Mumbai and Goa, introducing Burmese flavours to Indian diners and yes, Khowsuey was even sold at the Sunburn Festival. The enthusiastic response received at these pop-ups validated the idea, leading to the opening of the very first Burma Burma Restaurant in 2014 in Mumbai's Kala Ghoda area. Collaborating with Chef ansab khan, Ankit's visits to Burma were pivotal in crafting a menu that remains true to traditional Burmese flavours, resisting any Indianisation. Signature dishes like Khowsuey have become beloved staples, and the restaurant is renowned for its commitment to fresh cooking and a bespoke dining experience over the last 10 years.
