By adopting a “fractional services” model, companies can begin serving these markets without the upfront investment of creating their own infrastructure. As demand grows, they can scale their operations and eventually build their own setups if necessary. In a recent conversation with Salil Kapoor - CEO, Board Member, Mentor, and Co-founder of IOT Labs, we discussed the ongoing shifts in supply chains and distribution strategies post-COVID. "The pandemic laid bare inefficiencies that forced businesses to rethink both front-end and back-end operations. Agility and adaptability aren't just buzzwords anymore—they're survival tools." Agility and adaptability are more than just strategies—they're essential lifelines in today's volatile market. Leaders play a critical role in driving this continuous evolution to keep pace with shifting consumer demands."Innovation is key, but so is execution. Companies must find a balance between managing day-to-day operations and adopting fresh ideas." The rural market in India, projected to be a USD 4 trillion economy by 2034/35, presents a massive opportunity. However, traditional distribution models aren’t economically viable here. Companies need to explore shared services and direct-to-retailer models. Adapting distribution strategies to address new market realities. In Caret Dialogues' recent conversation with Manoj Tripathi, CEO of TCI Supply Chain Solutions, Prajakt Raut of Caret Capital delved into one of the key challenges in supply chain management today: the fragmented nature of the industry. With around 20 different stakeholders involved in any given process—ranging from vendors and suppliers to small transporters—the complexity can be overwhelming. In many cases, these stakeholders are at varying stages of technological adoption. For example, an auto ancillary company may source parts from 25 different suppliers, some integrated into tech platforms and others operating without them. This fragmentation creates hurdles in fully leveraging technology and achieving seamless coordination across the supply chain. However, the potential for value creation through integration is immense. Particularly in industries like automotive, where coordination among tier 1 and tier 2 suppliers is crucial, the last decade has seen significant improvements. OEMs and their suppliers, including companies like TCI, have made strides in improving these connections. As we continue to evolve, deploying technologies that can integrate all stakeholders, regardless of size or tech capabilities, will be key to unlocking greater efficiencies.
