At Catamaran we’ve always placed a premium on governance as a cornerstone of sustainable growth. My experience working with scaled startups has shown that good governance is not just about compliance—it’s about building trust by fostering transparency, accountability and ethical decision making. Thank you Inc42 Media MoneyX for having me and bringing together an insightful panel to share our perspectives on working with startups through their scale up journey Varun Laul Ibrahim Faruqi Amarjeet Singh Makhija

The LP View: “Family offices in the country are getting a lot more sophisticated and institutionalised as they carve out their alternative investment strategy,” said Deepak Padaki, President at Catamaran, adding how the firm has been ramping up its allocation in public markets with a slowdown in private markets. “The year has been relatively quiet [in terms of growth stage transactions]… “While we are looking at a few pre-IPO deals, we are still cautious. If valuations seem rich, we would prefer to wait for their prices to first get discovered in public markets,” he added. Verse udaan.com Acko DealStreetAsia https://lnkd.in/gxthCyWe

Catamaran had the pleasure of hosting Ms. Vinita Bali at our office today along with a small group of entrepreneurs and investors. In a wide ranging conversation with Ranganath M D, she drew on her experiences, uncovering phenomenal insights for us about the nuances of building consumer brands in India. Some takeaways: (a) Listen to the customer rather than your own perception of her (b) Segment the opportunity, not the market (c) It is a myth that the "unorganized" sector is inefficient (d) A true brand is built by incorporating your guiding idea in all your actions (e) Corporate governance is about transparency. It is a platform to propel growth and not slow you down (f) Incorporate safeguarding the environment into your business rather than just as a "CSR" activity. She also stressed the need to nurture and protect India's cultural heritage and performing arts, a mission that is close to her heart. With a raft of India-focused PE and VC firms hitting the road to raise capital, there could soon be a demand-supply gap as LPs choose to bet on funds with a robust leadership, well-defined strategies, and a good exit track record. To be sure, India is at an interesting crossroads. On the one hand, it is seeing PE/VC funds raise capital in hordes, betting big on the country’s long-term story, and on the other hand, the slowdown in actual transactions amid economic uncertainties and geopolitical tensions is making LPs cautious about future commitments. Thanks Mo Abrar (Hades Financial, Deepak Padaki (Catamaran) for sharing your views on the current investment landscape. Thanks Venture Intelligence (Arun Natrajan) for sharing the data.
