AI is a good servant, but bad master: CEO, GSTN In the realm of Business Intelligence and Fraud Analytics (BIFA), the Goods And Services Tax Network (GSTN) stands to gain immensely from Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI can streamline data analysis, detect fraud patterns, and predict future trends, thus ensuring compliance and safeguarding revenue. Speaking at the Data for AI Summit 2024 organized by Infosys on 3rd April 2024 at Bengaluru, Mr. Manish Kumar Sinha (IRS), CEO, GSTN said Artificial Intelligence (AI) has a potential to revolutionize the GSTN’s approach to BIFA. The BIFA unit of GSTN, established in 2019, utilizes AI/ML models alongside BI tools to analyze vast datasets, improving tax evasion detection and revenue assurance. By adopting AI, GSTN is in process of automating routine tasks, freeing up resources for more complex analysis. Moreover, AI’s predictive capabilities are aiding in strategic decision-making, offering a competitive edge in a digital-first economy. Thus, by embracing AI, GSTN is set to transform BIFA, driving efficiency, accuracy, and innovation in India’s tax administration. However, while integrating AI into BIFA, GSTN is cautious due to the certain limitations of AI. Ensuring data privacy, unbiased algorithms, and maintaining transparency are equally important to GSTN. Hence, regular accuracy checks, robust security, ethical usage, and human oversight are crucial. Adapting to evolving technology while respecting taxpayers’ rights for privacy and fairness is the goal GSTN aspires to achieve. #Artificial_Intelligence #AI #Data_Privacy #GST #GSTN #Machine_Learning
