Namibia, El Niño Effect: 700 Majestic Animals to Be Killed for Food The El Niño drought has wiped out about 84% of Namibia’s food reserves, leaving 1.4 million people at risk of severe food shortages from July to September. The severe drought is causing conflicts between humans and wildlife as they compete for scarce resources like water and land. To feed its population, Namibia plans to butcher 🐘 83 elephants 🦓 300 zebras 🦛 30 hippos 🦌 50 impalas 🐃 60 buffaloes 🐃 100 wildebeest Namibia received less than 20% of the needed rainfall. Similar crises have prompted Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Zambia to declare states of emergency. But is it ideal to kill wild animals for food?

☀️ Solar Power in India: A Bright Future, But Cloudy Adoption ⛅️ What do you think? Despite solar power being the most cost-effective energy source, its widespread adoption in India remains a challenge. This paradox can be attributed to a combination of factors: 1. Limited home energy use & cheap coal power make rooftop solar less attractive for houses ❌ 2. Study says only 118 GW of rooftop solar is feasible in India right now 3. But 60% of rooftop solar potential is in just 7 states! Huge opportunity! 4. More attractive incentives needed to get more people to switch to solar #TheGreenIndex #SustainableFuture #WelcomeToGreenIndex #BetaPhase #carbonneutral #carboncreditprogramme #missionlife #GDP

Government Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has not openly offered any incentives for Private Cos and bluntly pushed the installation of TPP. Private companies in India are in a dilemma......... 👉 According to data from the Central Electricity Authority, 34 out of 51 new thermal power plants(TPP) were imported from China between 2008 to 2022. 🤼♂️ After 2012, the import from China started declining and we sticked to 1 TPP per year from 2016 to 2022. There are 2 reasons despite of getting cheaper TPP 1. Focus on Make in India 2. Focus on Renewable Energy But the fact is that we cannot depend solely on renewable energy to electrify India 24 X 7. 🤐 According to government data, the total installed power capacity of the country in October 2023 is 4,25,535 MW. 56% of total comes from Thermal and rest from Renewable. Therefore we need more thermal power plants 🤐 by 2031 to amplify our electricity production. Not a green way of producing but this is the reality and let's face it. And therefore government is pushing states and private Cos to install new thermal plants by 2031 and add 60MW. #renewableenergy #greenrevolution #mnre #cop28uae #MinistryofPower #adanipower #tatapower #jindal #ntpc #missionlife #thegreenindex #igbc #CII #GreenBuildingCongress #netzero #sustainability #climatechange #climateaction #gbc2023 #renewableenergy #environment #carbonfootprint #carbonneutral #climate #energy #sustainableliving #globalwarming #energyefficiency #netzeroenergy #ecofriendly #greenbuilding #greenenergy #netzerocities #netzeroindia #carbonneutralcities #carbonneutrality #chennai #ChennaiTradeCentre #thegreenindex

How are Global Powers Addressing Carbon Footprints? During the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) summit in November 2021, India committed to achieving zero carbon emissions by 2070 and reducing emissions by one million tonnes over the next decade. To fulfill this pledge, the country is taking the initial step of establishing a carbon credit market. In May 2023, the Ministry of Power announced the government's intention to develop the Indian Carbon Market as a means to decarbonize the national economy. Additionally, a voluntary mechanism will be implemented to promote the reduction of Greenhouse Gas emissions from non-obligated sectors. The Ministry for Power, New & Renewable Energy is actively working towards setting up a Carbon Credit Market to align with India's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC). Introducing an innovative and voluntary Green Credit program, the government seeks to acknowledge and incentivize individuals and entities for their positive environmental actions. This initiative is part of the broader 'LiFE' campaign (Lifestyle for Environment), aiming to reward voluntary environmentally-positive behaviors. The concept of carbon credits traces back to the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, where the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) proposed a system to reduce global carbon emissions. The Paris Agreement, involving over 180 countries, further emphasizes the need to limit the global temperature increase to below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels by 2100. Numerous contributions, policies, and agreements worldwide have emerged in the past decades. However, the effectiveness of these initiatives in helping world powers achieve their determined targets in the coming years remains to be seen. #GCP #Carboncreditmarket #Carbonfootprintoffset #ClimateAction #greenindex #missionlife
