Climate Policy Initiative - India’s Director, Vivek Sen, Senior Manager Neha Khanna, and Advisor Kalpesh Gada contributed to insightful panel discussions on critical topics driving the climate finance agenda at #PRABHAV 2024 organized by the Impact Investors Council (IIC) In his opening remarks to the session on " Importance of Thematic Finance in India’s Climate Transition," Vivek Sen underscored the importance of thematic intermediation of finance, specifically thematic bonds. Thematic bonds will drive a shift in investment behavior by providing avenues for long-term investments in sectors/projects that are climate-aligned and earning returns suited to the investors. The session hosted by Avaana Capital India Climate, Week on The Role of Technology in Accelerating Climate Action, analyzed India’s climate tech evolution with a keen focus on achievements, challenges, and the path forward in climate adaptation, mitigation, and resilience. Neha highlighted the importance on providing support through the value chain for the clean tech life cycle and shared the success of the Global Innovation Lab and project preparatory facilities run by CPI—IPFF, and ICEF. The session "Moving the Needle on Debt in Impact,” moderated by Neha Khanna, highlighted how venture debt can support early-stage, high-growth companies making a social and environmental impact. It also highlighted that while there is a framework, new evaluation paradigms and agility will be important for moving the needle on debt in impact. The panel discussion on "From Inclusion to Climate: The Journey of Debt in Impact,” moderated by Kalpesh Gada, delved into the debt readiness of climate startups, parallels between financial inclusion and climate sectors, and lending strategies of specialist green NBFCs. It’s inspiring to see these discussions shaping and significantly advancing the future of climate finance and sustainable development. 🌱 #PRABHAV2024 #ClimateFinance #Cleantech #SustainableDevelopment #ClimateAction

Had the opportunity to share my thoughts in #Prabhav 2024 on the role of thematic finance. It was encouraging to see such a large group of investors discussing the important issue of climate change. Climate change is generating a shift in the global investment environment, leading to a greater emphasis on flexible and climate-conscious investments. Among the financial risks linked to climate change are physical risks to the investments due to rising sea levels, coastal erosion, heat stress, excessive and sudden rainfall which can lead the investments severely damaged or stranded. As investors get increasingly aware of these dangers, the demand for creation climate resilient infrastructure gets bigger. For the next few decades, we will see increased appetite of investors to invest in the production of green hydrogen, energy efficiency, climate-resilient infrastructure creation, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, energy storage and decarbonized industrial production. Much of this would be possible through thematic intermediation of finance, specifically thematic bonds. Thematic bonds will drive a shift in investment behaviour by providing avenues for long term investments in sectors/project that are climate-aligned and earning returns suited to the investors. #thematicbonds #sustainableinvesting #PhysicalRisks #climatechange Impact Investors Council (IIC) Climate Policy Initiative - India
