  • Freedom isn’t just a CONCEPT—it's a PRACTICE In the context of youth engagement, it isn't a lived practice, if it is limited to providing information, facilitating awareness and sharing feedback. We will all have to pivot our roles to facilitators of experiences, navigators of leadership development and companions who both validate and challenge the young person. True freedom for young people would mean - instead of reaping the dividend from youthful energy, we should sow the seed of agency and leadership in them. Here’s how: - Freedom to Choose Unconventional Paths: Young people need to feel empowered to explore careers and passions that may not fit traditional molds. Encourage them to break the norm and forge their unique paths. - Freedom to Define Success: Success is personal. Help young people realize that they can define success on their terms, not by societal expectations. It is hard, but you’ll be with them as they walk the talk. - Freedom to Fail Forward: Cultivate spaces where mistakes are stepping stones. Celebrate the lessons learned from failure as much as the victories. Ring fence these decisions for them to feel held. - Freedom to Reimagine Relationships: Support young people to build relationships that matter—whether personal, professional, or social—encouraging authentic, empathetic connections over obligatory ones. - Freedom to Challenge the Status Quo: Empower youth to question and innovate, to be the voices that bring change. Let them know it’s okay to disrupt when the old ways no longer serve. - Freedom to Reflect and Reassess: Give them the space to pause, rethink, and change direction if needed. Flexibility is key to resilience. Inviting you to share in the comments, how you are facilitating truly free experiences for young people. #IndependenceDay

Can we CLICK our way to a sustainable future? ‘From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development,’ - International Youth Day’s theme for this year, forefronts the need to contextualise youth work in the digital world. We swipe right on that! Amidst other digital innovations for young people, we recently designed UnDecide— a digital safe space where young people could openly share their thoughts, questions, and challenges with each other. Careers, relationships, or just figuring out the many confusions of being a young person today, UnDecide provided a supportive online environment for them to explore their options. Over 200 conversations across 16 states showed us how much this space was needed. What We Learned from UnDecide: -       DIGITAL SAFE SPACE: Human connections can be found digitally too! These online interactions helped participants feel heard and validated. They felt comfortable sharing their thoughts without fear of judgment. -       DIVERSE VOICES, STRONGER CHOICES: By connecting with people from different backgrounds and generations, participants could consider multiple perspectives, leading to better, more informed decisions. -       NAVIGATING CONFUSIONS: Many young people found clarity through the platform, gaining the confidence to make decisions about their careers, relationships, and more, even without having to engage in-person. At a time when the youth is spending a lot of their time online, with the right support, today’s informed clicks can indeed lead to tomorrow’s progress. What’s a digital learning tool that YOU’ve been using lately? Whether it’s at work or in personal life - tell us in the comments. Let’s use THIS digital space to chat, shall we? Oh, and a very happy #InternationalYouthDay to all you beautiful youth workers!

  • Climate action can't just focus on what's good for the environment. It also needs to address other PRIORITY NEEDS of the community to truly inspire sustained, collective efforts.  Here’s an example. Arunavh Dam and Vicky, young social entrepreneurs (Changeloomers) from West Bengal, are creating a sustainable model of co-existence between forests and local communities through their initiative, Muhaan. Alongside, fostering the ECOLOGICAL NEED for community-based conservation of natural resources, their project addresses - PSYCHOLOGICAL NEEDS through immersive programs and capacity building on empathy, learnability, deep self-awareness and systems thinking SOCIO-CULTURAL NEEDS by facilitating shared experiences for the community; and preserving traditional ecological practices with local knowledge keepers. ECONOMIC NEEDS - Promoting nature-positive and community-based tourism among local forest community members to generate livelihood opportunities.  Understanding and addressing all these FOUR KEY NEEDS of young people and communities is critical as we create spaces for them to view climate as a priority agenda. *Arunabha and Vicky, mentored by Anirban Gupta are a part of the community of 53 young social entrepreneurs and youth leaders in climate action (#Changeloomers), who are building climate-positive communities using the ‘Nourishing Now’ Framework. #NourishingNow #ClimateAction #YouthLeadership

Social Change is best enabled by insiders. Especially when the communities are underserved and vulnerable.  A few young leaders in West Singhbhum and Giridih in Jharkhand are committed to creating change in their communities on early child marriage, lack of sexual and reproductive health and violence against children, to name a few. 8 youth facilitators are inspiring 90 peer leaders, many of whom are first-generation learners, to take charge of the change they want to see in their own communities. “Due to low levels of education in my locality, children often end up getting married on their own. Many parents also force their daughters into ealrly marriages despite their refusal. This negatively impacts their own future as well as that of their future children. I want to change this,” Kamla Paan (21, West Singhbum).  Swipe to meet more Peer Leaders. *This initiative is in collaboration with UNICEF Jharkhand, Jharkhand State Livelihoods Promotion Society, Pratigya and Jharkhand Collective members. #YouthLeadership #Jharkhand

Sowing the Seeds of Building Intent and Inspiration for Youth Led Climate Action. At the Catalysing Social Impact 2024, diverse innovators, changemakers, and civil society organisations together explored building a youth-centric approach to climate action—one rooted in hope and agency. We celebrated and drew inspiration from young social entrepreneurs and youth leaders in climate action. These grassroots changemakers demonstrated how, by leading with passion and purpose, we can reimagine our work and create intersections with climate action. Thank you to these youth leaders who shared their journeys:  - Dimpy and Trishna, young agroecology leaders from Assam, showed how our food systems can be transformed through various aspects of life- both humans and non-humans can thrive together through the integration of cultural practices, blending tradition with sustainability. - Lakshay and Karan at from EcoReform, young social entrepreneurs from Delhi and Changeloomers of 2024, are reimagining correctional facilities as centres of sustainability and ecological innovation. - Ankush Rana and Shreyansh from COHAS, also young social entrepreneurs from Delhi and Changeloomers of 2024, are using theatre and other art forms to drive change and inspire action. Through this combination of building inspiration and deep-diving into the principles of "Nourishing Now" for practitioners, we collectively strived to find intersections in our work with climate action. We are deeply grateful to Catalyst Management Services (CMS) for giving us the opportunity to dialogue with different stakeholders to prioritise climate action. Celebrating Gagan Jyot Kaur Saloni G. Deep Jyoti Sonu Akshit Jain Ranjan B. and Oshin Dhawan for facilitating dialogues. #catalyst #ClimateAction #vartaLeap #youthleaders #changelooms #CMS #youthleaders #CSI2024

      +1
  • At the age of 18, Laxman Singh decided to bring water back to his village. And he did. For many years, Gram Vikas Navyuwak Mandal (GVNM), led by Laxman Singh, has been creating powerful immersive experiences for youth leaders and has been a core member of the ecosystem. Hailing from Lapodiya, Rajasthan, Laxman Singh and his team are celebrated for their work, including the Eco-Park, pastureland and water, Rat House, and more. Their most notable innovation is the 'Chaukha' system. To revitalize agriculture and livestock, and support environmental sustainability, they built many ponds with community members. As a result, Lapodiya has thrived without drought for OVER THREE decades. Our current cohort of social entrepreneurs working on climate change (#changeloomers) recently had the privilege of meeting Laxman Singh and his team. During this immersive learning experience, we witnessed the profound transformation in the community. Where once there was a dry desert, we now saw a thriving oasis filled with lush greenery and trees. Beyond water conservation, they have nurtured unity and pride, demonstrating how collective action can address a range of socio-cultural, economic, and psychological needs. Our experience with Gram Vikas Navyuwak Mandal highlights the strength, hope, and inspiration that can be felt and nurtured, when a community collectively makes climate action THEIR priority. And how it unfolds deeply meaningful and lasting change. #ClimateChange #YouthLeadership #Collective #vartaLeap #GVNM #collaboration

  • For a young social entrepreneur, dialogue on deep self-awareness and systems thinking; immersive learning in communities; and vulnerable, empathetic conversations with peers and mentors - is a GAME CHANGER! And this is what we experienced when 26 Changeloomers and 12 facilitators made their way from 11 states across the country to Rajasthan for a 10-day residential workshop. It was truly a coming together of diverse identities, experiences and perspectives. All, for a shared passion and aspiration - building climate-positive communities. With the dedication to inspire, influence and engage their respective communities, these young social entrepreneurs have their work cut out - LEARN, EXPERIMENT and ADAPT. Through exposure visits to GVNML (Gram Vikas Navyuvak Mandal Laporiya) and Bindi International, we experienced a slice of life - one where local communities are in harmony with nature. Learning from the experience and wisdom of these Rewilding and Renewables experts, enabled the Changeloomers to visualise their own projects to create sustainable impact. To align Climate Action with youth-centric and community-driven projects, the ‘Nourishing Now’ Framework offered an understanding of four key needs that must be addressed - Psychological, Socio-cultural, Economic and Ecological. And of course, like all youth-centric spaces, FUN was a serious business here, because one must laugh and learn, as we build solidarities. Watch the video created by one of the Changeloomers, Snobin, for glimpses of this beautiful experience! This would not have been possible without an abundance of energy and love from the Changeloomers, facilitators and partners! #Changelooms #YouthLeadership #vartaLeap #SocialEntrepreneur #ClimateAction
