This coffee season 2024, we teamed up with Aveen Rodrigues at Melkodige Estate to bring two new coffees to life: Melkodige Estate Anaerobic Natural and Melkodige Estate Lord 1385/1386. Melkodige Estate has a close connection to its land. Together, we’re exploring coffee that holds a story from farm to cup, practicing our mission to bring Indian coffee to a global stage. We faced challenges, leading us to experiment with different methods. Aveen introduced Saccharomyces microbes (yeast fermentation) to the process, unlocking new layers to the beans. The result is two distinct coffees that reflect the efforts and ideas we’ve shared—a story of what we’ve learned and created together, pushing boundaries, facing challenges, and discovering new possibilities. Our quest to bring specialty Indian coffee began in 2017. While exploring estates across India, in 2022, we discovered Anughraha Estate in the Nilgiris. Their practices matched our mission, and by 2023, we launched Anughraha Estate coffee, sharing its taste with you. Last year, Anughraha was named as the best estate in the Nilgiris for its organic practices. This year, we are bringing you Anughraha Estate's Organic Naturals process. For 25 days, ripe cherries were picked and sun-dried, allowing the flavors to come through from the land and people who cultivate it. This coffee is suited for methods that highlight its complex flavors. It works well with drip methods like V-60 Pour Over or Chemex, which bring out its nuanced profile.
