Hello Cyber Warriors and Young Minds, I want to share a real-life case study about a cyberattack on my YouTube channel in October 2021. We had just launched our channel in September 2021 with around 250 Cyber Warriors at that time. While pursuing a practical technical certification, I was required to hack/recon another computer via a VPN network provided by the certification provider. During the process, I initiated an Nmap scan, which took time, so I went to sleep. The next morning, I woke up to an alarming email at 2:10 AM stating, "Stekeblads Video Uploader was given account access." My YouTube channel was suspended shortly after. I wasn’t sure what had happened. After investigating, I realized that by connecting to the practical range VPN, my system was compromised. I had disabled my firewall, IDS, IPS, and antivirus during the lab, leaving my computer vulnerable. An attacker took control of my system and YouTube sessions, uploading inappropriate 18+ content to my channel. I immediately contacted the certification provider, but their initial response only reminded me not to store personal data on systems connected to the VPN. I raised a support ticket with YouTube, providing logs, screenshots, VPN IP, session details, and more. After a month, I finally got my channel back. This incident taught me several valuable lessons: Even with 2FA and MFA, attackers can find ways in. Always stay vigilant. If you receive suspicious access notifications, act immediately and monitor closely, even after denying access. Never use personal accounts on systems used for labs or practical work. When resolving issues, provide precise and relevant inputs. For every problem, there are multiple solutions. Always have backup plans. These learnings strengthened my approach to cybersecurity, and I hope it serves as a reminder to all of you about the importance of layered security and constant awareness. #Cybersecurity #RealLifeLessons #YouTubeHack #StayVigilant #CyberAttack #CyberWarriors #VPNsecurity #MFA #2FA #IncidentResponse #CyberAwareness #EthicalHacking
