From scouting for avenues to launch the first ever Technology Demonstration mission to now working towards the goals of the Decadal Vision for capturing 10% of the global Space economy, the Indian NewSpace Economy has transitioned rapidly. This bold transition within 3 years in a highly regulated and niche sector like Space Technology is unprecedented but welcome. With the right grit and determination and strong leadership, nothing is impossible to do in India. We have a lot to do from here in policy, technology, business and diplomacy – to build commercially sustainable Space Technology enterprises, to develop innovative technologies and explore the Universe not just for Defense & Intelligence, but also for the socio-economic, industrial and scientific growth of India. IN-SPACe, a one-of-its-kind nodal agency with the dual role of a Regulator and Promotion body, has been at the helm of enabling this growth with ISRO - Indian Space Research Organization as an enduring pillar of support. Highlights on Space Sector Challenges and IN-SPACe initiatives: 📈 Funding Challenges being solved by the INR 1000 Crore Venture Fund for Space Tech 🔬 Seed Fund Scheme & Technology Adaption Fund to drive R&D in Space Technology 🛰️ EO-PPP for funding the Indian aspiration of building commercial imagery satellite constellation 📡 Access to Indian Orbital Resources by Private Entities to solve hurdles in acquiring Orbital Slots 🤝 Technology Transfers for passing the benefit of ISRO R&D to commercial entities 🏎️ Spin-off programs for use of ISRO-developed Space Technologies in other sectors 🚀 Technology Transfer of SSLV and end-to-end manufacturing of PSLV by industry to bolster industrial base and launch capacity 🏭 Streamlining access to ISRO infrastructure for use by private entities and establishment of IN-SPACe Technical Center to solve for impediments in infrastructure access. 🚀 Industry demand-driven SSLV Launches for facilitating access to Space. 🛰️ Space Applications and Awareness Workshops for driving demand generation of Space-based solutions. All of this and more were discussed at the FICCI Bharat Space Conclave 2025 during which I moderated a panel discussion around Role of PPP and start-ups for India's ascent to Space Leadership, which is yet another marker of the change in ambitions in such a short time-span!
