I've spent almost seven years watching Disney Star's Standards and Practices (S&P) team transform from a straightforward content compliance squad into a key player in programming risk assessment, brand safety, and policy discussions. Sounds serious, right? Well, that's because it is—serious and super important. Managing risks for high-stakes productions is no walk in the park. But for the right person, it's also a lot of fun! Our team ensures that everything that our network publishes or broadcasts is top-notch and legally sound. We empower creators to tell their stories without stumbling over legal or regulatory landmines. But we don't just stop at content reviews. The department jumps in to support a range of internal and external initiatives. Take Disney Star's groundbreaking "Words of Pride" project, for instance—S&P collaborated as a strategic editorial and quality check partner. We didn't just preach allyship; we lived it. Plus, we created "Stories Matter," a one-of-a-kind DEI training program designed to help creators tell impactful, meaningful stories. When adding new team players, I look for two key things: a genuine passion for content (whether you're a film buff, a binge-watcher, or a bookworm) and a solid awareness of what's happening in the world around us. Why? Because great content reviewers aren't critics or gatekeepers—they're self-aware realists who grasp the socio-cultural and political pulse of our times with the foresight and knowledge to spot potential issues before they arise. At Disney Star, our "People First" culture isn't just a slogan—it's how we operate. Even before remote work became a trend, we embraced flexibility, especially for working mothers. So here's my advice: A job only feels like work if you don't connect with it on a personal level. But when you do, then you are in for an incredible ride! What we do here matters. It's impactful, meaningful, and something I'm proud to be part of every single day.
