About us

The Department of Civil Engineering was founded recently in the year 2019 with the aim of enhancing research practices in the hilly regions of the state and the country. In no time, with the dedication and hard work of well-experienced faculty members of various specializations, the department has grown into a fully-fledged one with well-equipped lab facilities and state-of-the-art infrastructure. This department is headed by Dr. Mahesh Sharma .

  • The Department of Civil Engineering at the University Institute of Shimla is pleased to announce that several students from the Civil Department had the privilege of participating in the 38th National Convention of Electrical Engineers on “Systemic Electric Vehicle Adoption in India including EV Charging-Implementation Roadmap, Regulatory Framework, Infrastructure Development, Technical Challenges & Case Studies” was organized by The Institution of Engineers (India) Himachal Pradesh State Centre.   The memorial lecture by Prof (Dr.) Yajvender Pal Verma, Professor and Registrar, Panjab University, Chandigarh on Challenges in transition to Sustainable E-Mobility was fantastic and highly knowledgeable. Professor Verma touched on every sector, whether it is: the emission of greenhouse gases by traditional engines running on fossil fuel, which is the burning issue in this time. Invited talks of Dr. Vivek Sharma, Assistant Professor, and Prof. Amit Kaul, Associate Professors, Department of Electrical Engineering, National Institute of Technology Hamirpur had enlighted us with Fundamentals of Electric Vehicle and Challenges and Opportunities of Electrical Vehicle respectively which all to be dealt in advance.   Charging of electric vehicles is going to be a big problem. How we can solve it and what will be the challenges and their solutions were discussed by Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur. He suggested about smart grid solutions for E-Vehicles.   Dr. S Dharmalingam, FIE, Coucil, Member and Member ELDB IEI &Visiting Faculty, National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli talk on Integration of Renewable energy sources in charging infrastructure – Two macro aspects to enhance sustainability was remarkable and demand of the time.   Dr. Pooja Sharma, Prof. Mukesh Singh, Dr. Ashish Kumar Sharma and Dr.Pratim Kundu, have discussed about the challenges for the management of next-generation barriers, Charging infrastructure in India, Policies of Electric vehicles and their impacts etc   Concluding and recommendatory remarks were given by Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Head Department of Civil Engineering, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla.   We extend our gratitude to the Institute of Engineers, Shimla for hosting this meaningful gathering. A two-day seminar on 38th National Convention of Electrical Engineers on “Systemic Electric Vehicle Adoption in India including EV Charging-Implementation Roadmap, Regulatory Framework, Infrastructure Development, Technical Challenges & Case Studies” was held in cooperation with The Institution of Engineers India, Himachal Pradesh State Centre, Shimla, on 15 & 16 December 2023. The seminar is a great way to learn about new topics and meet the leaders who are constantly working, and creating and innovating various elements in the field of Electrical Vehicle.

  • The Department of Civil Engineering at the University Institute of Shimla is pleased to announce that several students from the Civil Department had the privilege of participating in the 37th National Convention of Environmental Engineers on "Eco-friendly & Sustainable Approaches for Erosion, Landslide and Land Subsidence Management in Hill Region". The primary objective of this event was to unite engineers from diverse disciplines to commemorate their contributions Furthermore, the occasion served as a platform for acknowledging the often-overlooked efforts of engineers in disaster situations. During the event, distinguished delegates delivered presentations focusing on key topics such as the resilience cycle and strategies and techniques for mitigation. It was an enlightening experience that reinforced the importance of engineering in shaping a more resilient and sustainable future. We extend our gratitude to the Institute of Engineers, Shimla for hosting this meaningful gathering. A two-day seminar on "Eco-friendly & Sustainable Approaches for Erosion, Landslide and Land Subsidence Management in Hill Region" was held in cooperation with The Institution of Engineers India, Himachal Pradesh State Centre, Shimla, on 26&27 October 2023. The seminar is a great way to learn about new topics and meet the leaders who are constantly working, and creating. and innovating various elements in the field of Geotechnical Engineering. Participants from several prestigious universities, including BIS, IIT Roorkee, GSI, and Nagpur. CBRI Roorkee, CBIP, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, and among others, came together for this conference under the same slogan to discuss eco-friendly & and sustainable approaches for erosion, land subsidence management, and the risk of landslides in the Himalayan region.
