On the night of March 11, 2025, Telangana Special Protection Force (TGSPF) personnel apprehended two individuals for operating a #drone over the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat. The suspects, identified as Yetala Vamshi, a camera operator, and S. Nagaraju, a supervisor with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), were detained after security staff observed the #UAV hovering near the southeast tower and lawn area of the premises. The #TGSPF promptly alerted their superiors, leading to the swift apprehension of the individuals and seizure of the drone. The detainees, along with the confiscated device, were handed over to the Saifabad police station, where an investigation is currently underway. As of January 29, 2025, India has registered over 29,500 #drones, with the national capital leading at 4,882 registrations. Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra follow with 4,588 and 4,132 drones, respectively. Other states with significant numbers include Haryana (3,689), Karnataka (2,516), Telangana (1,928), Gujarat (1,338), and Kerala (1,318). The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued 96 Type Certificates for various #UAS models, 65 of which are intended for agricultural use. To promote #dronetechnology, the government has eased registration norms, allowing voter ID, ration card, or driving licence for registration. In a significant anti-smuggling #operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) seized a heroin packet worth approximately ₹5 crore near the India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar district. The operation commenced late Wednesday (March 12) night after local villagers reported spotting a #drone entering from Pakistan, prompting immediate action from security agencies. A joint team, including BSF G Branch Officer Devi Lal and CID Officer Hanuman Singh, conducted a thorough search approximately 2.5 kilometers inside Indian territory. By Thursday morning, the Gajsinghpur police had retrieved the packet, confirming it contained 1.116 kg of heroin. Preliminary investigations suggest the #contraband was delivered via a drone from Pakistan. This incident underscores a troubling trend of increased drone-assisted #smuggling across the India-Pakistan border. The #BSF has intensified search operations in the area, with additional blockades and patrols implemented to prevent further illicit activities.
