About us
The Department of Solar Energy (DSE) was established as a constituent school at Pandit Deendayal Energy University in October 2009 inspired by Late. Former President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. The Solar Research & Development Center (SRDC) at PDEU was established as a Center of Excellence (CoE) by the government node in 2013, and has been working on the development of fundamental and applied research on solar photovoltaic, fuel cell and energy storage. Moreover, SRDC is highly involved in monitoring the performance of the MultiTechnology 1MW Photovoltaic (PV) power plant at PDEU. A PV Module Production line with R&D capability and of annual capacity of 45 MW is also established for training and educational purposes. Courses offered by DSE: M.Tech in Energy Systems(focused on Solar Energy), Ph.D.

With an investment of ₹𝟳𝟱,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗿𝗲, the government aims to offer free electricity (𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝟯𝟬𝟬 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘀/𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵) to 𝟭 𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗿𝗲 homes by 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟳. The scheme has so far helped 𝟴.𝟴𝟲 𝗹𝗮𝗸𝗵 families, who receive up to 𝟰𝟬% subsidies on installation charges and save a sum of money of ₹𝟭𝟱,𝟬𝟬𝟬 to ₹𝟭𝟴,𝟬𝟬𝟬 annually from their electricity bill. But is this really "𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗹"? Although the scheme is a big leap in the direction of sustainability and energy autonomy, issues such as upfront investment expenses, delays in disbursal of subsidies, and knowledge gaps still persist. Is this scheme able to bridge policy and actual impact? What's your take? Will this spur India's renewable energy transition, or are there bottlenecks that must be overcome? Let's chat!
