🚀 Strengthening Data Protection & Responsible Gaming! 🎮🔐   E-Gaming Federation (EGF) has submitted its recommendations to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on the Draft Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Rules, 2025. As a leading industry body, we are committed to ensuring a #secure, #transparent, and #responsible gaming ecosystem while aligning with India’s evolving data protection framework.   Key Highlights from EGF’s Submission include:   ✔️ Focus on Active Users, Not Just Registrations—Gaming platforms should be classified based on active users rather than total sign-ups. Instead of using 50 lakh registered users as the threshold, we recommend focusing on active users to ensure fair classification.   ✔️ Clarity on Data Retention Rules – The 3-year data storage rule should align with other regulations and law enforcement needs. Platforms should have clarity on their liability if inactive user data is deleted after this period.   ✔️ Balanced Compliance Requirements – We seek clarity on whether gaming platforms will be classified as Significant Data Fiduciaries (SDFs) and what that means for compliance. Data Protection Impact Assessments should apply only, when necessary, with clear criteria on when they are required.   ✔️ Parental Consent for Minors – While EGF supports this requirement, a simple, standardized process should be developed to make verification easy and cost-effective.   ✔️ Security and Data Protection – Data protection should be strong but not overly burdensome, ensuring smooth operations while keeping user data safe. However, more clarity is needed on data localization rules, especially for international platforms operating in India.   ✔️ User Rights & Industry Guidance – A fixed timeline for grievance redressal should be mandated to ensure faster resolution for users. A formal advisory system should provide clear guidelines to help gaming companies comply effectively.   At EGF, we believe strong data protection laws will enhance consumer trust, protect user data, and support India’s digital economy.
