The eighth Breathe-In Dialogue was held on 25 September 2024 on the topic ‘Indoor Air Quality in Schools’ as part of Cleaner Air and Better Health (CABH) project supported by United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The dialogue hosted Dr. Corinne Mandin from IRSN, Dr. Henry Burridge from Imperial College London and Dr. Radha Goyal from Indian Pollution Control Association and Society for Indoor Environment (SIE). Dr. Mandin shared important insights on indoor air quality in schools. She discussed common pollutants, their sources as well as impacts of window operations and cleaning products. She emphasized how these issues affect students' health and learning. Dr. Mandin called for indoor air quality regulations in schools and day-care centers, along with public awareness programs. Dr. Burridge shared data on how indoor air quality changes with seasons and weather events like sandstorms. He also highlighted the impact of activities such as fireworks and school reopening on indoor air quality. His research revealed variations in classroom ventilation levels across different types of schools. Dr. Goyal focused on common pollutants found in Indian schools and their sources. She suggested practical solutions and policy recommendations to help schools maintain good indoor air quality. *Upcoming Dialogue* Join us on Wednesday, September 25 at 14:30 IST for a ‘Breathe-In’ dialogue on ‘Indoor Air Quality in Schools’, as part of the Cleaner Air and Better Health (CABH) project supported by United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Addressing indoor air quality in schools is crucial due to high student and furniture density, use of materials like chalk and glue, and nearby traffic. Schools often lack proper ventilation and keep windows closed for safety, making them more susceptible to air quality issues than homes or offices. This dialogue hosts Dr. Corinne Mandin from IRSN, Dr. Henry Burridge from the Imperial College London and Dr. Radha Goyal from Indian Pollution Control Association, Society for Indoor Environment (SIE). This dialogue will focus on indoor air quality in schools, its effects on children’s health and learning outcomes. A novel methodology to generate and analyse extensive monitoring datasets via collaborative citizen science method will be introduced. Happening today!! Excited to share that Mohak Zanwar and I will be representing environmental design solutions today, at C40 Cities's webinar on "Accelerating Grid Decarbonisation through Rooftop Solar Deployment in Cities"! This webinar is the first in a series of dialogues focused on the energy and building sector transition #KnowledgeSharingSeries. We’ll be sharing key insights and best practices from Indian cities, and discussing the immense potential of rooftop solar in urban areas. We invite climate action practitioners, city officials, institutions specialising in knowledge management and policy-oriented research, as well as anyone interested in climate issues. Register for the webinar below 👇 🗓 Date and time: Today, 10th Sept 2024 I 3:30 PM lST/ 10 AM GMT (1.15 hr) Where: https://lnkd.in/dY65pdyd #climateactiondialogues #energytransition #buildingsector
🌟 Webinar Announcement 🌟 💻 C40 Cities invites you to a webinar on “Accelerating Grid Decarbonization through Rooftop Solar Deployment in Cities”, on 10th September 2024 from 15:30 to 16:45 IST. The webinar is designed as an awareness building opportunity to understand what is the rooftop solar landscape, the economic and environmental opportunities for cities and DISCOMs, as well as valuable insights and best practices from other cities. ☀ India's rooftop solar (RTS) capacity saw a record-breaking increase of 2.99 GW in 2023-2024 - the highest annual growth to date. With a potential of 274 GW in cities, Rooftop solar can significantly contribute to India’s 500 GW renewable energy goal by 2030, offering economic and environmental benefits. However, several factors such as high capital cost, lack of financing options, and insufficient levels of information dissemination limit adoption of RTS in cities. To keep pace with rising energy demand, cities must accelerate its efforts to expand rooftop solar installations. 📣 We invite climate action practitioners, city officials, institutions specialising in knowledge management and policy-oriented research, as well as anyone interested in climate issues. Register for the webinar below 👇 🗓 Date and time: 10th Sept 2024 I 3:30 PM lST/ 10 AM GMT (1.15 hr) Where: https://lnkd.in/dY65pdyd We look forward to seeing you there! We're excited to wrap up the third session of this year's South Asia Women In Energy (SAWIE) Mentorship Series! Gauri Jauhar at S&P Global Commodity Insights led an impactful discussion on " Navigating the Energy Transition: Opportunities for Women Leaders in a Complex and Evolving Industry" 🔆 Key Takeaways from the session: ➡ Challenges for Women in Energy 👉 Underrepresentation: Women, particularly those from non-engineering backgrounds, are underrepresented in the energy sector due to a variety of factors including societal and cultural biases. 👉 Non-engineering skills are equally important: There's a misconception that success in the energy sector requires a technical background. However, skills in social sciences, policy, and management are equally valuable. ➡ Strategies for Aspiring Women Leaders: 👉 Embrace Your Strengths: Don't feel pressured to pursue an engineering degree if your strength lies elsewhere. Leverage your social science and policy skills in the energy transition. 👉 Network Strategically: Build your network by joining industry groups and online communities like that of SAWIE, GWNET, etc. Networking is key to career advancement. 👉 Develop Executive Presence: Speak confidently and assertively. Don't be afraid to interrupt politely if someone tries to talk over you. ➡ Succeeding in the Ongoing Energy Transition: 👉 Stay Informed: Keep yourself updated on policy changes, new technologies, and trends in the energy sector. 👉 Develop Targeted Skills: If you're not an engineer but passionate about something like energy efficiency, focus on learning 1-2 specific technologies relevant to the field. 💡 Remember: 👉 Network is your net worth: Building strong connections can open doors to new opportunities. 👉 Be confident: Speak up and assert your ideas in discussions. We extend our gratitude to our incredible mentor, Gauri Jauhar, and all the mentees for their openness and participation. Meet the Mentees: Syeeda Yeasmeen Meer at USAID-BADGE, Tetra Tech, Avani Devi at Caterpillar Inc., Manisha More at Reliance Industries Limited, Jio-bp, Smita Singh at European Union, Malini Chakravarty at Climate Policy Initiative (CPI), Neha Gupta at OMI Foundation, Sanjidaa Hoque at Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) and Sumedha Malaviya at World Resources Institute (WRI), Lakshmy N from environmental design solutions Interested in learning more and engaging with SAWIE?
