At the Water & GIS Summit during the Esri India User Conference, industry experts and Esri India leaders gathered to discuss how geospatial technology is revolutionizing water resources management. Ashish Kumar Mittal (General Manager - Sales, Esri India) opened the summit by highlighting the use of GIS for optimized Water Resources Management throughout its lifecycle. The event began with a panel discussion featuring: - Shri Anand Mohan (IFS, Joint Secretary (RD & PP), Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, RD & GR, Govt. of India ), who spoke on the Jal Shakti Ministry’s priority areas for water management and how intersectoral outcomes are enhancing the nation’s water security and sustainability. - Dr Anju Gaur (Senior Water Resources Specialist, World Bank) showcased the impact of national hydrology projects and their role in supporting data-driven governance. - Vikas Goyal (Water Resources Specialist, Asian Development Bank (ADB) Development Bank) addressed challenges in the Indian water sector and how ADB is using geospatial technology to ensure project viability, particularly in improving agricultural water use efficiency through GIS. - Nalin Kumar Srivastava (ICAS) (Deputy Director General, National Mission for Clean Ganga) discussed GIS interventions in pollution abatement projects and their positive impact on local communities. - Prasana Prabhu (Chairman, Vyakti Vikas Kendra India VVKI, The Art of Living) spoke about Art of Living’s river rejuvenation projects and how technology is helping connect communities and improve execution. Following this, Dr Anil Lohani (Head - Surface Water, National Institute of Hydrology) shared insights on the GIS-based approach for planning hydrology infrastructure projects. He was joined by Dr Pushpendra Singh (Scientist E, National Institute of Hydrology) and Sugam Samriti Banchta (Engineer - Customer Success, Esri India), who presented the "Applications of Water Accounting (WA+)" tool developed by NIH, which aids in analyzing water supply and demand for sustainable management. A technical presentation by Hitesh Kumar Thakur (Consultant, World Bank) highlighted the role of integrated State Water Resources Information Systems (WRIS) in addressing complex water management challenges through unified data collection, analysis, and dissemination. Finally, Suneet Manjavkar (Industry Head Water - Business Development, Esri India) concluded by emphasizing the importance of leveraging geospatial relationships in water data to foster sector growth and how customized GIS solutions can drive efficient water management across the country. #EsriIndia #GIS #Water #EsriIndiaUC
