Excited to announce that my project Eth Design Studio has been featured in Architectural Digest magazine! Grateful for the recognition. Check it out and show some love! hashtag #ArchitecturalDigest hashtag #DesignRecognition ... The 91-year-old mansion once owned by Udaipur’s Maharana Bhopal Singh remained distant to the general public before finding new life with Qalaa Art Bar & Coffeehouse (@qalaaudaipur). Located on the second floor of this ancient mansion with grand arches, luxurious interiors, and spectacular wall paintings — the project assignment which was commissioned to Eth Design House (@eth.designstudio) requested a modern update to the space, without losing its essence and historic charm. “The space was in pretty good condition as it was renovated just a few months before it was handed over to us. It was absolutely wow in scale and had some murals, but the finishes and lighting were dismal,” informs Gaurav Mewara (@_mewarag), principal designer, Eth Design Studio. To achieve the desired ambience, Mewara balanced three key design particulars—spatial arrangement, furniture typology, and composition. First, the voluminous 1,400-square-foot expanse was altered in size by creating two unique settings which not only separated Qalaa visually but also offered a range of experiences for a visitor within one place. “We chose pink for the single height and blue for the double height area to maintain visual balance and highlight the intricate details on the walls. Besides, these two colours also reflect the cultural heritage of Rajasthan and fit in well with the surroundings,” explains Mewara.
