Consider the situation. It's the first day of your internship and you're asked : "Hey, just check the causelist and inform me whether the matter is listed for tomorrow asap." Worry not! It won't be much of an ordeal for you to check the causelist after you finish reading this post. Basically, a causelist is a list of matters that are going to be listed for the upcoming working day in the Hon'ble Court. A causelist gives you your serial no. which you'll be looking for on the court display, your CORAM (The Hon'ble Justice who will be presiding over the proceedings), the concerned court room no. and other relevant details like the names of the lawyers who will be appearing, Respondents and Petitioners, etc. To check the causelist, you are supposed to open the concerned court's website. Then you look for the services section under which you click on an option that reads 'causelist', then you fill in the date and download the causelist in the desired format. Don't be afraid to see that the causelist you just downloaded has 800+ pages. You toggle to the search in page or the search in PDF option and search for the matter you are asked with a few key words. And if everything is done correctly, the required results shall be shown on the screen. Newcomers to law chambers are often required to know the basics and at the Finvocates, you learn exactly that! That's a wrap, follow us for more informative content.

"What is a Vakalatnama ?" A Vakalatnama is a document that is submitted before a court by a lawyer to declare that his/her client has authorised him/her to represent them (i.e. the client) before the court. In other words, Through the means of a Vakalatnama that a lawyer submits before a court, it is declared that the concerned lawyer shall be representing the client in the matter as mentioned in the document and they have landed in an agreement for the same. Law students are expected to know the jargons in professional settings. Moreover, It's important to learn how to draft a Vakalatnama without any mistakes. Oftentimes it is seen that students and juniors make Vakalatnamas for the petitioners when asked for the respondents and vice versa. It is advised to keep the details in mind when drafting a Vakalatnama. When drafting documents, it should be noted that the grammar and punctuation are correct. Remember that being a professional requires you to be perfect. Mistakes should be reduced and precision should be sought. Finally, do learn some basic MS Word formatting skills and make sure that your work is readable after it's printed on paper. Some final touches in MS Word and your document is ready! ✨ Our #PracticalLegalLexicon series will be focused on the language of law and litigation from the basics so that it helps junior law students in transitioning from academic environments to professional ones.
