“I come from a North Indian Punjabi family, and most people in our family have donned the Indian defence uniform one way or another. My dad was part of the Sino-Indian War, you know! While born in Bengal, I spent most of my growing years in Dehradun. After school, I joined the National Defence Academy (NDA), and became an Officer in the Infantry Regiment in 1996. From challenging terrains of Siachen Glacier and LoC, serving a Peacekeeping Mission in Sudan (Africa), to being part of the Kargil War, I’ve been part of a few adventures. It’s a hard life, but equally rewarding. Personally, 1999 - 2002 was the most pivotal period of my life. 1997 was when I married my dear wife, Radhika. Having just moved from Assam to Panagarh near Kolkata, and looking forward to perhaps 3 years of peaceful tenure, we were actually setting up our first home as a young couple. While hosting fellow officers and families at our first housewarming party, I remember receiving the call - “your unit has been assigned to Kargil”. You can imagine the raw emotions of all concerned. But it was fine. Joining the Services means being ready for that ‘eventuality’ as a soldier. It also means that those around you also go through the same thing, and therefore, you experience the strongest form of support from the community. The rest, as you know about that time, is history! I’ve served in many capacities - I was an Instructor at the Junior Leader’s Wing of the Army responsible for training all Infantry officers on Commando and Platoon tactics, Chief Instructor at the UN Peacekeeping Training Centre of the Army, and commanded my Infantry Battalion in the Rann of Kutch. In my last assignment, I was the Director of Procurement at the Army HQs, responsible for Revenue Procurement for the Army, which you may know as Opex Procurement in the corporate world. By 2018, having served for 22 years, I retired voluntarily with a sense of having given my all to the nation, seeking more stability and time with family. I joined Flipkart in 2023. Since then, it’s truly been a rollercoaster ride - new learning each day, with focus on fast-paced work, dynamic challenges and a relatively flat structure to support my maximization. Comparing my two lives, I feel that both carry an element of Courage. At Flipkart, that’s embodied in Audacity, the first of our 5 company values - to move away from the fear of failure, and take a mental leap of faith towards success. Also, when it comes to leadership, no matter the environment I operate in, the principles have remained the same for me - Know your Job, Know your People, and Keep the Purpose/Goal as your north-star in everything you do! My proudest Flipkart moment so far has been the reduction of losses by 40% (and a 30% reduction this year). It’s efforts like these that make my journey worthwhile as I continue to maximize for India, but in a new capacity! - Colonel Ravi Madhok, VSM (Asset Protection and Security) #TalesOfInclusion #VeteransOfFlipkart

Flipkart’s Supply Chain Operations Academy (SCOA) partners with the Govt. ITI Kalyani, West Bengal, to empower local youth with skills for careers in the growing supply chain industry. Through an MoU, Flipkart and ITI Kalyani will establish a Center of Excellence (CoE) Lab featuring classrooms and simulation labs designed to provide hands-on training in supply chain operations. With ITI Kalyani’s proximity to the Haringhata Bigbox facility, the program aligns training with real-world industry needs, helping bridge the skills gap in the region. In 2024, Flipkart SCOA trained and certified 4,200 individuals, including 826 women, highlighting Flipkart’s commitment to equipping India’s youth with the tools to succeed in e-commerce.
