✅ To serve the growing consumer demand for healthy yet convenient foods... CSIR−Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) has launched following new products and technologies to mark its Platinum Jubilee Foundation Day: - Probiotic carrot nectar - Gluten free bread premix - Instant Masala tea premix, - process for Multigrain waffle - Ethylene scavenger technology. 1️⃣ According to CFTRI experts, Probiotic carrot nectar is a vegetable-based beverage developed by probiotic bacterium Lactiplantibacillus plantarum MCC5231 in carrot nectar. This can help those who face issues due to dairy-based products like lactose intolerance, milk allergies, and so on. It fulfills more than 50% of the daily requirement of Vitamin A. 2️⃣ To cater to the growing demand for gluten-free products as well as promote millet utilization, they have developed a process for the production of gluten-free bread premixes with all essential ingredients using 100% minor millets including proso, foxtail and barnyard. As per experts, this bread has a superior nutritional profile as compared to many gluten-free products in the market. 3️⃣ Waffles are popular among people of all age groups. To improve its nutritional quality, the multigrain waffle has been formulated using whole wheat, pearl millet and finger millet flours with optimal amounts of sugar and fat. As per experts, the multigrain waffle has higher dietary fiber, minerals and lower calorie value as compared to the waffles made of refined wheat flour available in the market. 4️⃣ They have also developed Instant Masala Tea premix with authentic taste of traditional Indian masala tea with longer shelf life. 5️⃣ They have even come up with Ethylene Scavenger Technology which is sustainable, safe, and cost-effective. As per experts, it is made out of agricultural and industrial waste by-products and it is biodegradable. It is safe and non-toxic, with no contamination like in chemical-based options. --- 🚀 Follow Foodkida to get FSSAI-related posts in your LinkedIn feed. 🔄 Repost if you find this post valuable. 📲 You will get food technology updates in this WhatsApp group: https://lnkd.in/gVWJv6QR

⚠️ A new study has revealed that toxic 'Forever Chemicals'... known as perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), have been found in drinking water samples worldwide. 📍 What are PFAS? - PFAS are long-lasting chemicals that break down extremely slowly over time. - They're commonly used in products like non-stick cookware, water-repellent clothing, stain-resistant fabrics, cosmetics, and items that resist grease, water, and oil. - While some PFAS have been banned in certain countries, others remain widely used. - These chemicals are already known to enter the body in different ways, for example being breathed in, ingested via food or drinking water, or absorbed through the skin. - They are known to cause adverse health effects such as a lowered immune response to vaccination, impaired liver function, decreased birth weight, and increased risk of some cancers. 🎯 The study was conducted by researchers from the University of Birmingham and Hainan University. They found 10 'target' PFAS chemicals in tap and bottled water available for consumption in major cities across the UK and China. These chemicals are notorious for not breaking down in nature and persisting in the environment. The researchers found that perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) were detected in over 99% of their samples of bottled water. For the study, researchers collected 153 samples from various sources. For bottled water, they purchased 112 samples from local shops and online supermarkets in the UK and China. The bottled water samples included 89 still and 23 sparkling waters, packaged in both plastic and glass bottles. Additionally, 41 tap water samples were collected from homes in Birmingham, Worcester, Coventry, and Derby. ✅️ How to reduce PFAs? - Fortunately, simple methods can reduce PFAS levels in drinking water. - Boiling water or using a carbon filter can remove up to 90% of these toxic chemicals. --- 🚀 Follow Foodkida to get FSSAI-related posts in your LinkedIn feed. 🔄 Repost if you find this post valuable. 📲 You will get food technology updates in this WhatsApp group: https://lnkd.in/gVWJv6QR

💥 Swiggy launched “Swiggy Seal” to improve food quality and hygiene standards. The 'Swiggy Seal' initiative is to raise hygiene and food quality standards among restaurant partners on its platform. The initiative, which is currently live in Pune, will be gradually scaled up during November to cover over 650 cities across India. "Since the program's launch 2 weeks ago, restaurant partners have shown high interest, with hundreds of requests for hygiene audits already received. Should any concerns arise about a restaurant holding the Seal, Swiggy will thoroughly review the feedback and may revoke the badge if the restaurant fails to maintain the established standards," Swiggy stated. 🎯 Under the initiative, this badge will be featured on restaurant menu pages to highlight those with a proven track record of serving hygienic, high-quality meals in quality packaging. "Leveraging insights from over 7 million verified customer reviews in the past six months, the Swiggy Seal program aims to elevate restaurant hygiene practices. It offers restaurant partners comprehensive insights and actionable support to ensure the delivery of hygienic, well-cooked food in high-quality packaging," Swiggy stated. 🌟 Through this initiative, Swiggy will share detailed, verified customer review-based feedback with restaurant partners, focusing on key areas like contamination prevention, optimal cooking and packaging quality. 💥 In order to compete with Campa by Reliance Consumer Products Limited, PepsiCo and The Coca-Cola Company are looking into the possibility of launching more affordable soft drink types in local markets. The present market leadership is being severely challenged by Campa’s competitive price and attractive trade margins. Targeting regional markets, the 2 big cola firms will launch lower-priced soft drinks that are roughly 15% to 20% less expensive than their regional brands. Except for several regional competitors, Reliance’s growth presents a serious threat to PepsiCo and Coca-Cola’s dominance in the soft drink industry. To stay competitive without sacrificing their market positions, this can involve launching secondary brands (B-brands) or more reasonably priced goods. 🌀 PepsiCo’s response Ravi Jaipuria, the chairman of Varun Beverages, PepsiCo’s prominent bottling partner in India, stated that they are prepared to introduce a product line to compete with the pricing in the B-segment. Campa was referred to as a “strong contender” by him. He mentioned, “In the future, they will capture a portion of the overall market. I can’t say who will be impacted first… It’s uncertain. However, we are enhancing our market approach,” stated Jaipuria. 🚩 Coca Cola’s Response Coca-Cola is increasing the distribution of glass bottles that can be returned for Rs 10 and are mainly aimed at tier-2 markets, according to two informed executives. Additionally, the business is planning to launch regional brands that can grow as needed. --- 🚀 Follow Foodkida to get FSSAI-related posts in your LinkedIn feed. 💬 Comment your opinion about this announcement. 📲 Never Miss Food Industry Job Updates, Join Foodkida Whatsapp Group: https://lnkd.in/gVWJv6QR

💥 CSIR develops ‘FluoriPCR’, a device to test Food Adulteration. 🤝🏻 The FluoriPCR, created by the Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute, Pilani (CEERI) and the Indian Institute of Toxicology Research (CSIR IITR), combines four devices for molecular and biochemical testing in food safety, diagnostics, and health. “The device was developed as part of CSIR-IITR’s Advancing Technological Leads for Assuring Safety of Food (ATLAS) under CSIR’s Mission Mode Project,” stated Dr. Bhaskar Narayan, head of CSIR-IITR. FluoriPCR was tested by CSIR-IITR to detect mixing in meat products and verify the species of meat. 📌 Cost of FluoriPCR Purchasing the necessary equipment to perform these tests is typically costly, totaling around ₹35 lakh. However, according to a scientist at the center of the creation process, this device might be sold for between ₹1 and ₹1.5 lakh. 🔰 Application of the Device This is a compact device which can easily be carried anywhere, and more importantly, it is customisable. Testing for adulteration in other food ingredients with DNA, such as wheat and pulses, is another application for it. Testing for the presence of germs, viruses, fungus, and food allergies like gluten and soy will also be made easier with this. Additionally, the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) recognized laboratory has checked the device. “Analysing samples with the machine developed, CSIR-IITR has detected contamination or mixing in meat products and the authenticity of four meat species. This helps us to find if the sample is mixed with undesired meat components,” said a scientist from CSIR-IITR. --- 🚀 Follow Foodkida to get FSSAI-related posts in your LinkedIn feed. 🔄 Repost if you find this post valuable. 📲 You will get food technology updates in this WhatsApp group: https://lnkd.in/gVWJv6QR

🌟 Colombian Scientists develop supplements to protect bees from pesticides. Scientists in Colombia developed a revolutionary plant-based dietary supplement in October 2024 that protects bees’ brains from the damaging effects of agricultural chemicals, preserving their vital role in ecosystems and pollination. As pollinators, bees are thought to be crucial to both food production and the preservation of natural ecosystems. “This is a nutritional solution to the problem bees face when exposed to pesticides,” said Andre Riveros, associate professor at University of Rosario. “The food induces them to develop a protection (against pesticides)”. 🚩 Protection from Neurotoxins In collaboration with the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Arizona and Colombian Universidad Javeriana, the private Rosario University in Bogota, Colombia, created a plant-based supplement that enables bees to withstand neurotoxins frequently used in agriculture without suffering damage to their motor system or memory. ✅️ Flavonoid-Based Solution Flavonoids, which are plant-derived substances with health benefits, are included in the supplement to assist bees develop resistance against neurotoxins that can affect their memory and motor function. 👩🔬 Lab Testing and Real-World Application While the supplement’s effectiveness in real-world settings is currently being assessed in university apiaries, initial research comprised feeding sedated bees in a lab condition. 📌 Future Research and Impact “We already know that there are molecules that improve the bees’ health, we already know that there are molecules that prevent neuronal damage caused by pesticides”, Ovalle explained, adding it was important to continue the work to boost the effectiveness of these methods in supporting bees. --- 🚀 Follow Foodkida to get FSSAI-related posts in your LinkedIn feed. 🔄 Repost if you find this post valuable. 📲 You will get food technology updates in this WhatsApp group: https://lnkd.in/gVWJv6QR
