In Italy, Kia unveiled a new iteration of their compact Niro Hybrid #SUV, which is reportedly the first tri-fuel hybrid #electriccar ever certified by a factory. The latest #KiaNiro model combines a market-exclusive #LPG system with the gasoline tank and electric powertrain that are available worldwide. According to reports, the Niro’s WLTP-rated 1,600 km driving range is made possible by this tri-fuel #technology. According to reports, Westport Fuel Systems in Italy collaborated in the development of the new fueling system. In comparison to the normal Niro hybrid, Kia claims that the tri-fuel system adds a 40-liter LPG tank and has little effect on driving operations. In comparison to the conventional model, the tri-fuel Niro hybrid emits 6% fewer carbon emissions. The 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine of the Kia Niro Hybrid LPG generates 124 BHP when combined with a 40kW electric motor and a 1.32 kWh battery. According to media reports, in the third quarter of this year, the Port of #Singapore surpassed #Rotterdam as the largest biofuel bunker port in the world, with sales of 227,000 metric tons, up 67.5% from Rotterdam’s 137,175 metric tons. The Port of Rotterdam’s head of liquid bulk business intelligence, Ronald Backers, ascribed this in part to Singapore’s robust bio-blended bunker sales. Rotterdam’s performance was further hampered by the Dutch government’s reduction in subsidies for marine #biofuel. With fuel sales five times that of Rotterdam, Singapore had long been the world leader in conventional #bunkering but had fallen behind in the switch to alternative fuels. Recent events, however, suggest that this marine competitiveness is changing. Vitol predicted at SIBCON earlier this month that Singapore’s biofuel sales would soon quadruple yearly.
