  • #grrf Special Day Update 14 October- International E-waste Day International E-waste Day is a yearly awareness raising celebration on 14th of October. It aims to highlight the growing issue of electronic waste and promote responsible e-waste management. This year’s edition will run under the slogan “You can recycle anything with a plug, battery or cable!” highlighting the issue of invisible e-waste - the electronic items that often go unrecognized and are not properly recycled within the appropriate waste stream. While e-waste is often associated with discarded gadgets and devices, a significant amount of electronic waste remains hidden in plain sight. Invisible e-waste refers to electronic waste that goes unnoticed due to its nature or appearance, leading consumers to overlook its recyclable potential. As today’s lifestyle is more and more technology oriented, a lot of products present on the market have an electrical or electronic components. This means that at the end of their lives, when they can no longer be reused or repaired, they should be part of the electronics’ recycling stream. Some examples of this type of objects, largely present in households are: electric and electronic toys, e-cigarettes, power tools, smoke detectors, wearables, smart home gadgets, e-bikes and e-scooters or simply cables. #grrf #ewaste #policy #future #recycle #battery #eobjects #people #technology #responsibility #linkedin

  • #grrf Special Day Update 13 October- The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction Every year, millions of people around the world are impacted by natural and technological disasters, but most of their impact can be minimized with advanced planning and preventative actions. October 13 is designated as International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction with a focus on encouraging a global culture of risk awareness and catastrophe preparedness. The day also recognizes the efforts communities and individuals around the world are lowering their vulnerability to disasters. The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction was established in 1989 in response to a United Nations General Assembly request for a day to encourage a world view of risk awareness and disaster reduction. The drastic change in recent years has been a triggering factor in many natural calamities. Effective disaster risk governance is measured by the number of lives saved, financial losses, and the proportion of the catastrophe-affected population. A coherent understanding, effective strategies, and powerful organizations that act on scientific data are the keys to optimizing primary prevention.
