Grid Controller of India Limited (GRID-INDIA), a Miniratna-I company, formerly known as Power System Operation Corporation Limited (POSOCO), is a wholly owned Government of India Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, bearing responsibility of operating India’s Electricity Grid through the National Load Despatch Centre (NLDC) and five (5) Regional Load Despatch Centres (RLDCs) ensuring power within and across the regions and trans-national exchange of power with reliability, security, resilience and sustainability, ultimately reaching to over 1.4 billion consumers.

  • As part of the India-USA Trilateral Development Partnership (TRi DEP), GRID-INDIA is hosting a two-week programme focused on Capacity Strengthening for Modernized Grid Management and Enhanced Power Systems for 25 member delegation from Tanzania comprising of participants from Ministry, Regulatory bodies, Utilities, Academic Institutes and Private sector in Tanzania. The programme was inaugurated on 16th September 2024 by Ms. S. Usha, Head of the National Load Despatch Centre, marking a significant step forward in fostering knowledge exchange and innovation within the power sector. By bringing together industry experts, key stakeholders, and partners, this event reinforces GRID-INDIA’s dedication to driving global energy resilience, enhancing grid efficiency, and supporting the transition to sustainable, clean energy solutions. As part of the TriDEP program, the Tanzanian delegates, accompanied by the GRID-INDIA team, conducted a technical visit to the Multi-Terminal HVDC facility in Agra on September 21, 2024. During the visit, the team toured the HVDC site and engaged in discussions with Power Grid Corporation of India Limited officials as well as GRID-INDIA. A technical presentation was delivered to the delegates, providing an in-depth understanding of the Multi-Terminal HVDC system. The delegates expressed their appreciation for the valuable insights shared during the visit.     GRID-INDIA participated in the 17th 'POWERGEN & Indian Utility Week 2024' at Yashoobhomi, New Delhi (4th-6th Sep), showcasing our journey towards ensuring power reliability across the nation at our dedicated pavilion. Our CMD, Sh. S R Narasimhan, delivered insightful perspectives as a distinguished panellist during the Industry Plenary session, emphasizing GRID-INDIA's pivotal role in steering India's Energy Future. He highlighted GRID-INDIA's policy advocacy on Flexibilization of conventional generation, enabling flexible operation of thermal fleets, optimized hydro resources, and diurnal and seasonal deployment of gas-based generation. GRID-INDIA has been honored with the prestigious "Grid Operator of the Year" award! This recognition by the Governing Council of POWERGEN India, Indian Utility Week & BHARAT ELECTRICITY Awards 2024 underscores our commitment to innovation and excellence in the Indian power sector. On behalf of GRID-INDIA, the recognition was received by Sh. Paresh Ranpara, Director (HR), Sh. Sanjay Mehrotra, Director (Finance) and Sh. Manoj Kumar Agrawal, Executive Director. This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of entire GRID-INDIA team. During the event, Sh. R K Porwal, Director (System Operation), highlighted the need for flexibility in RE integration, citing barriers like mindset, tech, and market structure, and welcomed thermal fleet flexibility (55% to 40% turn down). On the final day of the event, Sh. SC Saxena, Director (Market Operation), emphasized that India’s rapidly rising RE integration is similar to international trends discussed at the recent CIGRE session in Paris.   • Team GRID-INDIA comprising of 16 delegates, cheered by former CMD Mr. K.V.S Baba is actively contributing at #CIGRE Session 2024 in Paris, France. On Day 2, Mr. S.R. Narasimhan, CMD GRID-INDIA and the current President of GO15 was an invited speaker in the Opening panel discussions and the CEO forum where he spoke on the ongoing energy transition and shared his vision for future power systems. Special Rapporteurs for Study Committees C5 (Mr. S. C. Saxena, for Electricity Markets and regulation) and C2 (Mr. Vivek Pandey, for power system operation and control) are from GRID-INDIA. On Day 3, Shri Pandey presented at the Large Disturbance Workshop and is scheduled to speak on CIGRE TV on 30 Aug 2024. This year, 18 technical papers from GRID-INDIA have been accepted for presentation in six different study committees C1, C2, C4, C5, D2 and B4. In partnership with the Electric Power Research Institute, we’re hosting the 2nd edition of this event, focusing on "Preparing India's Coal-fired Power Plants for Flexible Operations."     In an effort to foster Industry-Academia & Stakeholder collaboration, ERLDC, GRID-INDIA successfully organized a two-day training program on "Reactive Power Management" in technical collaboration with the IEEE PES Kolkata chapter. The program saw active participation from over 70 representatives across RLDCs, SLDCs, WBPDCL, DVC, NTPC, NHPC, OHPC, IPPs, ERPC, and POWERGRID . Eminent faculty members covered a range of contemporary topics on reactive power management. To boost participant engagement, an "Educational Tour" was arranged to the underground GIS substation of CESC. The event concluded with the distribution of participation certificates by IEEE PES Kolkata chapter, marking a new chapter in collaboration.
