Astronauts Return to Earth After an 8-Day Mission Turns Into a 9-Month Stay. After more than nine months in orbit, U.S. astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore finally returned to Earth on March 18, safely splashing down at 5:57 p.m. EDT off the coast of Tallahassee, Florida.
