The Keir Starmer led #LabourGovernment has been mired in controversies since the beginning of its tenure. The PM had to remove his Chief of Staff Sue Gray who was widely blamed for the unsatisfactory start of the Government and replace her with Morgan McSweeney in a bid to improve the functioning of his administration. The new #PrimeMinister has struggled to deliver on his planned spending cuts amidst growing opposition from both within and outside the party. Besides the freebie-gate scandal has also adversely impacted the Prime Minister's image who came to power promising clean and responsible politics. The growing numbers of abstentions during elections indicate that #Algerians are losing trust in the electoral process. It is a lesson for the ruling elites to make serious political, economic, and social reforms. The questioning of the electoral verdict by the three candidates, including the winner, exposed structural problems, such as infighting among the civilian and military elites, a fragmented political system, and the lack of credibility of the national Electoral Authority. These issues will be compounded by regional and global challenges to security and global political stability.
