Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) - Telangana

The Red Cross is a global humanitarian organization active in 190 countries, founded over 150 years ago. It started with the aim of helping war wounded and prisoners but now also focuses on medical care, blood donations, and first aid, guided by principles like Humanity and Neutrality. In India, the Red Cross was established in 1920, following the Geneva Convention of 1864. The Telangana State Branch of the Indian Red Cross Society began in the same year. When the state of Andhra Pradesh was divided in 2014, the Red Cross also split into separate branches for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The Red Cross helps people affected by disasters and runs charitable activities, including free medical aid. The Telangana branch, led by the Governor of Telangana, offers various services through its district branches, like blood banks, orphanages, and health clinics. In 2020, the Telangana State Branch celebrated its 100th anniversary, aiming to significantly increase its members and youth volunteers, under the leadership of Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, the Governor of Telangana.
