Solar, wind energy generation rises as discoms cut payment delays in FY24: Fitch Total solar and wind power generation up 4% in FY24 in India as new assets become operational Improved production from wind and solar farms took India closer to its target of generating 500GW of renewable power by 2030. Overall power generation was slightly below one-year P90 forecasts, Fitch said, referring to predictions accurate to the 90th percentile. The rise in solar and wind energy generation in FY24 tracks growing demand for renewable energy across the globe. Yet, the domestic renewable energy sector is beset by multiple challenges including lack of adoption, expensive imports and high costs of capital for energy generation. Renewable energy now 44% of India's power capacity! India's total renewable energy capacity has reached 196.4 gigawatts (GW) at the end of June 2024. The total installed capacity of conventional power sources has now come down to 251.2 GW or 56.1%, according to data from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA). The share of renewables in the country's power capacity mix has reached 44.2% by the end of the second quarter of calendar year 2024.
